Harry Potter Dies in the Deathly Hallows?

Is Harry Potter the Final Horcrux?

Heidi Adams
Fans everywhere eagerly anticipate the release of the book seven, the final in the Harry Potter saga written by J.K. Rowlings, The Deathly Hallows. The Deathly Hallows hits bookshelves on July 21st, 2007 and fans are eagerly awaiting the final chapter of the Harry Potter series. There are so many questions that remain unanswered, and the Harry Potter fans need closure. Several fans have contributed their theories online and multiple theorists have even written books detailing their theories on the final chapter in the Harry Potter saga and how the last book will play out. The big question is...will Harry Potter die in the Deathly Hallows or will Lord Voldemort meet his demise on the end of Harry Potter's wand as he displays the one power Lord Voldemort cannot defeat, love and self sacrifice? Or will it be a combination of the two? Millions of fans will be racing to the bookstores for the release of the final book in the series. Some may even skip to the last few pages in hopes that Harry does not die. It seems an injustice to the fans if Harry Potter does in fact die in the final book. Spending countless hours reading thousands of pages only to end up with an unhappy ending to the saga...just doesn't seem right.

When J.K. Rowling was recently interviewed about the final installment of the Harry Potter series and she stated that she changed the final word of the book, that was oncethe word "scar". No confirmation has been made by Rowlings on what the final word will be, but something has changed and it is no longer "scar". It is amazing to think how one simple word could change the entire outcome of the book. Apparently during the last few chapters of the book, J.K. Rowling had an emotional breakdown and actually sobbed her eyes out. She became very attached to the characters as most authors do and rightfully so. Rowlings admitted that she would kill off two of the main characters in this last book. In her most recent interview, Rowlings stated that she consumed a half bottle of champagne from the mini bar after one chapter and went home with mascara running down her face. Could it be that Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort must die in the final book as the prophesy foretold? Fans learned in installment six, "The Half Blood Prince", that Lord Voldemort had hidden his soul in the horcruxes. Could it be that Harry Potter is the final horcrux and he must sacrifice himself to kill Lord Voldemort? Will Harry sacrifice himself in a final act of love, as his mother and father had done for him? Will his death be justified to the fans or will they expect a happy ending? There are so many theories that it is hard to tell what J.K. Rowling might do in the final chapters of the book. She may do what pleases her and not the fans. It is obvious that something very upsetting, even devastating occurs in the final chapters of Book 7, or Rowlings would not have sobbed her eyes out on the floor of her hotel room.

Whatever the outcome of the final installment of the Harry Potter series, one thing remains true. J.K. Rowlings will go down in history as a beloved author and most prolific author of children's literature and the story of Harry Potter will continue on throughout history. It just goes to show that anything can happen and will happen if you make it happen. Harry Potter, the boy who lived...will live on in our hearts and dreams whether he lives or dies in the final installment.

JK Rowlings changed the final word of book seven, it used to be scar. Rowlings admits to bawling her eyes out near the end of the book and drinking a half bottle of champagne after one of the final chapters.
