The Order of the Phoenix plays a very important role in the Harry Potter series. Even long before Harry Potter was born, the Order of the Phoenix was fighting against Voldemort. Once Voldemort lost his power, after trying to murder Harry Potter, the Order was finally able to relax. The Dark Lord was no longer a threat, but during Harry's fourth year at Hogwarts, Voldemort returned. In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, we get our first glimpse of this magnificent group. This article contains some of the more interesting facts about the Order of the Phoenix.

Harry Potter Facts about the Order of the Phoenix #1: Founded in the 1970s

During the 1970s, Voldemort started gathering people to become Death Eaters. In response to this, the Order of the Phoenix was formed. The Order included several famous wizards, including Harry Potter's parents.

Harry Potter Facts about the Order of the Phoenix #2: Founded by Dumbledore

Dumbledore was the founder of the Order of the Phoenix. Once he heard of Voldemort's plans, he immediately began contacting people to join his group. These people were more than willing to fight in order to stop Voldemort's rise to power.

Dumbledore made sure that his group was different from Voldemort's Death Eaters. In fact, the Order of the Phoenix has members of all different family types. The Order of the Phoenix was comprised of full-blood wizards, Muggle-born wizards, half-bloods, and even Squibs.

During book 5, the headquarters for the Order of the Phoenix is at Sirius Black's old family house. The Order of the Phoenix meets at Number Twelve Grimmauld Place, but Muggles never see their headquarters because it remains hidden.

Harry Potter Facts about the Order of the Phoenix #7: Not Approved of by the Ministry of Magic

While the Ministry of Magic may have supported the Order of the Phoenix when they first formed, they do not approve of them now. The fact that Dumbledore disrespected the Ministry of Magic has made them untrusting of anything Dumbledore was doing.

Harry Potter Facts about the Order of the Phoenix #8: More Murders Continue to Happen

Nothing has changed since the time when the Order first formed in the 1970s. Many members of the Order of the Phoenix continue to die. Only time will tell, how many more members will be murdered.
