Harry Potter Fansites That Tell You Everything You Ever Wanted to Know

5 Indispensable Websites for the Harry Potter Enthusiast

John Garamond
News about Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is everywhere, but real information? Not so much. Where do you go when you want to know who the Holyhead Harpies are? Where can you find the most passionate and articulate debates about Snape, argued by adults? Where do you go to find everything that J.K. Rowling has ever publicly said? True fans have access to all this and more, and now you do too.

5. The Harry Potter Lexicon.

This is the definitive website for all things Harry Potter. From a detailed timeline of the Wizarding World chronicling every event ever mentioned by J.K. Rowling in books, interviews, movies and the Harry Potter website, to thoughtful essays on the most obscure plot points, this website has it all. Literally. There are indices for characters, places, events, spells and magical objects. So comprehensive is this site that Rowling herself admits to using it often, and says, "This is such a great site... my natural home."

4. Accio Quote!
This is the place to go for Rowling's direct quotes: anything she has ever said publicly, in interviews, in her non-Harry Potter writings and on her website is here, easily searchable by subject and date. A casual saunter through this site can throw up unexpected treasures. Did you know that in an interview immediately after the publication of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, Rowling said: "...in Book Seven you'll see just how close you can get to the dead"? That's big news for anyone with theories about whether Harry Potter will die in Book 7.

3. The Leaky Cauldron.
This website makes the list instead of Mugglenet, the other fan favorite, because it's so much better run and so much easier to navigate. both websites offer similar content: news from the world of Harry Potter, both movies and books. On both sites you'll find archives of photographs, movie stills, interviews and profiles of the Harry Potter movie actors, and its comprehensiveness is not matched anywhere else on the internet. The Leaky Cauldron has an active forum populated mostly by Harry Potter fans in their teens. Unlike most other forums, you won't find many "delusionals" here!

2. The Sugar Quill.
This little website, which was started right after the publication of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, is a sanctuary for adults fans of the Harry Potter series. Thoughtful, intensely passionate but always polite discussions dominate one of the most active and articulate forums in the pantheon of Harry Potter websites. Since the publication of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, there have been nine complete threads devoted the the great Snape debate, and it's here that you'll find the best reasons for both camps - or perhaps it's all three... or four... or five? There is certainly no shortage of theories on the Sugar Quill! And after an exhausting debate, head over to the Sugar Quill fan fiction archive for some of the best fan fiction in the fandom.

1. JKRowling.com.
The author's own website, available in several languages and formats, is a treasure trove of Harry Potter nuggets. Here you'll find Rowling's descriptions of characters and plots she cut from her original plan for the books (and why she did it), her musings on the Harry Potter phenomenon and popular culture, even a complete autobiography in which she speaks of her childhood, her family and that famous journey from Manchester to King's Cross station when she dreamed up the world of Harry Potter. There are sections where she debunks rumors, records her everyday thoughts in a diary and even answers fan questions! Altogether, it is a window into a famous author's life that no one should miss.
