When Voldemort tries to kill Harry we are told that his scar is the result of a blocked Avada Kedavra curse. But we also know that not only is Avada Kedavra unblockable but this curse leaves no marks so it doesn't add up. Something else must have caused this scar. Dumbledore tells Harry that Voldemort probably had planned to make his final Horcrux the night he killed Harry's parents. What we don't know is how a Horcrux is made - whether the spell happens before, during or after the killing necessary to split the soul. It could be that Voldemort had intended to make the Horcrux after killing Harry but then things went wrong. The spell to make the Horcrux could have been released without Voldemort knowing and created Harry's scar.
Dumbledore tells Harry that he believes Voldemort's snake, Nagini, is a Horcrux thereby informing us that it's possible for animals and probably humans to become Horcruxes. He also notes that Voldemort has a rather odd hold over the snake, much like the way Voldemort can possess Harry. In Order of the Phoenix Voldemort is driven out of Harry's mind when Harry starts to fill it with his love for Sirius. But Voldemort is in Harry's mind long enough to realize that part of his soul is in Harry and therefore decides to leave Harry alone and no longer try to kill him. Voldemort then goes after Harry's protector, Dumbledore instead. He even tells his Death Eaters that Harry cannot be touched by them.
That's the first half of the debate. It is also very possible that Harry is NOT a Horcrux and there's evidence that supports that as well! Dumbledore tells Harry that he believes there are really only six Horcruxes and then goes on to name them, Harry not being one of them. He tells them the four that are left and then tells him to destroy those four and then go after Voldemort. Then there's the subject of accidental magic. In all of the six books so far we've never once seen accidental magic unless it was in the case of very young wizards not being able to control their magic. They aren't spells, but rather expended energy that causes something to happen - like when Harry set the boa constrictor free in Sorcerer's Stone. And probably most importantly - if Harry is a Horcrux then Harry has to die and nobody wants that so it just makes sense to believe he is not one.
There is evidence for both sides of this debate and anyone who wishes for our hero to save the day is no doubt hoping that Harry is not a Horcrux. While there seems to be more evidence suggesting he is a Horcrux it would certainly be a happier ending if he weren't!

Post a CommentThere are bound to be twists and turns along the way but I would really like to see this end well. Otherwise what has Harry (along with us) suffered for?
Very true.
But honestly, I don't care about a happy ending, I care about a twist like there was in all the other Harry Potter books. And with this being the last bok of the series, there WILL be a lot of twists.
I wrote an article about this a few months ago. I got a nasty note from an HP fan! LOL Only a few more days until we find out.
