'Harry Potter' Movie Themed Halloween Decorations

Here are three options for Halloween decorations based on Harry Potter films. These movie themed decoration ideas can be made using simple materials to provide last minute solutions for trick or treat plans or parties.

Dementor Scene Doorway Decorations

Soul sucking Dementors appeared during scenes in "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" and continued to haunt the main character throughout some of the remaining films. Fold a black queen size bed sheet cover in half and then cut a hole in the middle of the folded side using a pair of scissors. Place the top of a clothing hanger through the hole on your bed sheet cover and then hang it on a closet or shower rod. Cut large slits in the open bottom sections of your bed sheet while it is hanging. Cover a skeleton head or round pillow with a black pillow case or black fabric and then attach this covered piece to the top of your hanger. Place one skeleton arm or tree branch inside the bed sheet cover to make left and right arms.

Attach an extra piece of black fabric to the head of your decoration using Velcro to create a hooded appearance. You an also use a hooded black bath robe made of lightweight fabric such as Polyester or silk to add an extra layer to the body form. The double sided tape can be used to create sleeves around the arms on the bed sheet cover if you are not using a robe. Attach this Dementor decoration to the upper corner of a doorway entrance that guests are likely to use when visiting your home. Use combination of Velcro, yarn, double-sided tape or black shoestrings to secure this movie themed Halloween decoration in place for as long as you desire. You can also make multiple Dementor decorations to hang around a front porch, as entertainment for trick-or-treaters.

Harry Potter Sorting Hat Decorations

Students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry are sorted into four separate houses by a magical hat, as demonstrated in "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone". You can make sorting hat decorations to use as a centerpiece for dinner tables in the home or other pieces of furniture. The "Harry Potter" Sorting Hat is one of the easiest movie themed Halloween decorations that can be created and implemented at the last minute. Cover crooked witch hats with large pieces of soft brown fabric using glue or double-sided tape. Draw spooky eyes and a mouth on each hat using a black marker. These "Harry Potter" sorting hat Halloween decorations can also be used to help guests identify specific areas such as tables for drinks, desserts, party favors or food if you are hosting a holiday event. Attach festive signs to the top or base of your hats if they will be used for this purpose.

Deceased Hogwarts House Guests

Dress skeletons in private school uniforms that resemble Harry Potter and fellow Hogwarts students. The uniforms should include a white button down shirt, grey sweater, black dress pants and black shoes. Style the uniforms for all skeletons in a different manner if you want each house at Hogwarts to be represented among your Halloween decorations. Variations in these uniforms can be applied by adding a Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw or Slytherin necktie to your skeleton's uniform.

Sit the dressed skeletons in chairs located in different rooms around the house. You can sit one guest at the dinner table with a place setting and toy food while other guests are seated in the hallways, staircase landing, kitchen or family room. Add wigs to the skeletons to make these Harry Potter movie themed Halloweens decorations look like the main characters. A wig that has straight red or orange hair can be to create a Ron Weasley house guest decoration while wigs with blonde or light brown curly hair may help you create Hermione Granger character.
