Harry Potter is No Horcrux

I find it an interesting phenomenon, that during every discussion I've participated in, speculating on the content of the 7th and final installment of J. K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" series, someone suggests that Harry himself is the 7th Horcrux.

Let me back up a moment, for the uninitiated few who don't know what a Horcrux is, or those who may have forgotten. A Horcrux is 'is the word used for an object in which a person has concealed part of their soul." In order to 'split' one's soul, a person must commit an act of pure evil - murder; then they use a specific spell in order to encase the torn portion of their soul into whatever object they choose, thus creating a Horcrux.

That said it is my belief that Harry Potter cannot be a Horcrux, let alone the 7th. As Dumbledore speculates in "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince," it's very likely that Voldemort intended to use the murder of Harry in the creation of a Horcrux; after all, according to Dumbledore, Voldemort saved the making of Horcruxes for murders he deemed special, or significant in some way. However, after the attempt at that particular murder (in spite of having Lily & James' murders fresh on his soul), Voldemort had no body and no strength. Therefore, he could not have created that 7th Horcrux.

Returning to "Half-Blood Prince" for a moment, two Horcruxes have already been destroyed - the diary used in "Chamber of Secrets," and Salazar Slytherin's ring. There is also Slytherin's locket, which I believe may be the one that was found at Number Twelve Grimmauld Place in "Order of the Phoenix" and Helga Huffelpuff's goblet, which we know that Voldemort stole. I personally believe that Dumbledore's assessment that Voldemort found and used some relic of Rowena Ravenclaw's to make the 5th Horcrux, I also agree with the idea that Nagini (Voldemort's pet snake) is the 6th Horcrux.

There is no 7th Horcrux. There is only the 7th piece of Lord Voldemorts's soul - the piece that resides in his body. It is the final piece of Voldemort's soul, which Harry will have to destroy to end his reign of terror. Our lightning bolt scarred hero will no doubt have help along the way, from Ron and Hermione as far as finding and destroying the Horcruxes, but that last nugget of soul is Harry's to tackle. For good or for evil, the series will come to a close soon, Horcruxes and all.
