Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix Takes the Wii Controller to New Levels

Ever since it was revealed that the Nintendo Wii would have a gimmick controller I was skeptical. Really who can blame me? I remember the power glove that never worked. I remember that pad Nintendo had for running on, it never worked either. Even the gun that came with Duck Hunt was barely useable.

So when I heard the idea of the new Wii controller I thought this is never going to work. It's not going to work properly and the one thing that is supposedly a reason to get the Wii over the other systems is going to be a bomb. Now I haven't actually used the controller myself so I'm not sure how good it works but I haven't heard many complaints and now the Wii controller is sounding a lot more interesting.

I wasn't all that interested in playing with the Wii controller to play tennis or baseball or anything like that. If I want to act out the motions of playing tennis or baseball I would go outside and play tennis or baseball with an actual tennis racket or baseball bat. However, if I were to go outside with a magic wand and wave it around people would think I'm crazy. That is something I would only do in the privacy of my own room and pretty soon you can do exactly that.

In the upcoming Harry Potter game, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, the Nintendo Wii controller will act as Harry Potter's wand. There is not a whole lot that is known about all the tricks that can be done but there are a few things that have been revealed. According to a preview by IGN you can thrust the Wii controller forward to force objects away from you. The player will also be able to use the wand to lift objects and move them around the room.

I have to admit this is a pretty genius idea if Nintendo continues to use the Wii controller like this then I'll be more enticed to buy a Wii. I just hope there is even more to it than what they have revealed so far. Hopefully waving the wand in different patterns will do different spells. Who knows maybe someday down the line there will even be some kind of voice activation device and you'll have to actually say the magic words for the spell to work. I'll probably have to have Hermione come to my house and teach me how to say the words though.

Sounds interesting but the real Wiimote showcase game will be Metroid Prime 3. The Wii controller was made for shooters.
