Liverpool reverted to the team that had ended Chelsea`s unbeaten 4 year run apart from the omission of the still injured Torres.Within two minutes Liverpool had taken the lead. An attack down the right side saw Keene turning his defender to enable Kuyt to get a clean shot on goal. From an incredibly tight angle reminiscent of a certain Mr Dalglish, Kuyt rifled the ball home.
For the remainder of the first half Liverpool were in total control with Spurs being restricted to one on target shot from a David Bentley free kick which sailed harmlessly over the bar. A panic in the Spurs defense saw a defender turn the ball against his own near side post. This wasn't to be the first time Liverpool would encounter the woodwork.
With Spurs going nowhere Harry changed it round in the second half putting on Pavyulchenko to team up with Bent up front. This reversion to a four two four shape gave Liverpool even more space to play in. Liverpool struck the woodwork twice in the second half when surely another goal would have killed off Spurs. A slack pass by the goalkeeper was snapped up by the ever watchful Kuyt and Gerrard's cross shot bounced off the bar. Another scramble in the box saw Alonso`s goalbound shot deflected by King`s arm onto the goalie`s hands and then onto the upper part of the upright. Another great Liverpool move just saw the luckless Kuyt hit his first time volley over the bar. Usually when a team is riding its luck like Spurs there is a sting in the tail. And right on cue there it came. A corner on the right was swung across goal only for Jamie Carragher to direct it into his own net. The third own goal in his career against Spurs! A remarkable stat given that Carragher has only ever managed 4 goals in his long career.Given Liverpool`s recent history a late winner would not be unexpected but a late winner did come but not from the reds!!A shot from Aaron Lennon was palmed away to the left by Reina in the Liverpool goal. Dossema instead of shepherding the ball out of play allowed the Spurs player to get the ball across where it was turned in by Pavulchenko. Two to one to the Spurs with the clock ticking down.Another 4 minutes of injury time wasn`t enough for Liverpool to maintain their unbeaten run and Harry has done it again.Seven points out of nine since his arrival last week after Spurs had only picked up 2 points in their previous 8 games!! Incredible! As for Liverpool they played well and should have taken all the points but you just can`t take account of lady luck and Harry has brought a sackful with him based on today`s result.
