Harry's Savoy Grill in Wilmington

Delaware's Premier Place for Prime Rib

Benjamin Daymon
Harry's Savoy Grill in Wilmington, DE is known throughout the Delaware Valley for their quality prime rib. While conveniently located along the Pennsylvania-Delaware border, location itself is rarely reason enough when seeking out the best in beef offerings. At Harry's Savoy, the food, its creative presentation and their warm relaxing atmosphere conspire to create memorable meals with their signature, unforgetably tender and flavorful prime rib.

At Harry's Savoy, red meat carnivores are in for a real treat. Harry's signature, award winning Prime Rib Au Jus is not to be missed. As per the menu, the recommended doneness is "Medium Rare at its Best". Harry's signature prime rib is offered in Grill Cut, 12-ounce portions for $24.95 and a beefier, Savoy Cut-- an 18-ounce size serving for $29.95.

The house recommends a Milbrandt Cabernet Sauvignon to complement their perfectly seasoned prime rib. At $9.50 per glass, this full bodied wine offers a smooth and round finish. If you're looking for another wine to go with your steak or prime rib dinner, be sure to speak with the restaurant's Sommeliere, Anne Hood. Ms. Hood was instrumental in securing Harry's Savoy's well-earned recognition with Wine Spectator's 2009 Award of Excellence. The award is given to restaurants offering "a well-chosen selection of quality producers, along with a thematic match to the menu in both price and style."

While Harry's Prime Rib is a mainstay, the restaurant offers several other noteworthy beef dishes worth considering. The 18-ounce, "Bone-In Black Angus Sirloin" offers excellent steakhouse flavor. For $32.50 the dish comes with cabernet butter, crispy shaved onions and Haskell Farm green beans. For those with a somewhat more moderate appetite, Harry's New York Sirloin Strip Steak offers 12-ounces of Iowa corn-fed beef for $28.50.

Harry's Grilled Filet Mignon is offered with a rich, silky béarnaise sauce. Served with sautéed mushrooms, the 8-ounce center-cut filet is $28.75. A heartier 10-ounce portion, also served with the sauce béarnaise and sauteed mushrooms is available for $33.95. The Chevre and Herb Crusted Petite Filet comes complete with Sunny Girl Farm beets, fresh horseradish and arugula for $25.50.

Sounds very nice, albeit a little out of my price range these days.
