Hartford Wolf Pack, Connecticut's Hockey Team

Wolf Pack, Searching for More Wins and More Fan Support

Vonda Menard
The Hartford Wolf Pack, the New York Rangers AHL affiliate, came to Connecticut in 1997, after the Hartford Whalers relocated to North Carolina. It may have been too early for heartbroken Connecticut residents to embrace another hockey team, but over a decade later, the Hartford Whalers are now the Carolina Hurricanes, and the Wolf Pack, are Connecticut's hockey team.

The Wolf Pack have done all they can to help Connecticut fans get over the loss of the Whalers, including being one of the most successful teams in the AHL. Since arriving in Hartford, the Pack have made the playoffs every year, and won the Calder Cup in 2000. Bob Crawford, Director of Broadcasting & Media Relations for the Wolf Pack, was kind enough to speak to me about the team. "Hockey fans appreciate the Rangers putting a good team together. Players in this league are trying to get to the next level, so they're working hard and playing with great intensity."

For the price of a movie ticket, $10, you can witness how good AHL hockey is. Bob has a message for those thinking of attending a Wolf Pack home game, "You'll see an exciting game in an NHL caliber building, with great music, and sight lines." To see for yourself, check out the schedule for the remaining Wolf Pack home games at, hartfordwolfpack.com.Friday's are Guida's Family Value Nights, where you can get 3 tickets, 3 soda's, 3 hot dogs or 3 pizza slices, and a souvenir for as low as $45.

I attended the Saturday night game and watched the Pack defeat the 1st place Worcester Sharks, 4-2. The attendance for the game was, 5,377, not terrible, but I'd love to see even more fans in the seats. Near the glass, next to the visitors penalty box, I was surround by great fans, who made the game even more entertaining. One woman seated in back of me, was at her first game. She couldn't believe how exciting it was. She told her husband, "We're definitely coming back." More first timers need to come to the games, and I'm sure they'd feel the same way. Let's fill this arena, and make so much noise, the Whalers hear us in Carolina.

Your Hartford Wolf Pack are fighting for a playoff spot, come to the XL Center to cheer them on, they can use your support.
