Hartz Crunch 'n Clean Cat Treats Product Review

Kassidy Emmerson
I've always given my cats treats from time to time. They love to nibble on them, and the crunchy nuggets help remove harmful tartar from their teeth. I buy different brands of cat treats for a couple reasons. One, this allows me to buy what's on sale. And two, buying different brands gives my cats a wider variety of flavors. My felines get bored eating the same flavor. Recently I spotted a new cat treat on the store shelf. Since it's made by "Hartz", a recognized leader in pet products, I decided to check it out. Read this informative product review and find out about Hartz Crunch 'n Clean Cat Treats. They can improve your cat's oral health and save you vet bills!

Price and Availability
I found Hartz Crunch 'n Clean Cat Treats at Kroger. A 3-ounce bag cost around $2.50. That's a bit more than I normally pay for cat treats.

Right now you can get visit the product web site and print out a $1 off coupon.

If you log onto the Hartz Crunch 'n Clean Cat Treats web site, you can also find out what other retailers that carry this product. The list includes Albertsons, Discount Drug Mart, Kmart, Meijer, Piggly Wiggly, Safeway, Supervalu and Wal-Mart.

Product Description
Hartz Crunch 'n Clean Cat Treats comes in 3 different flavors- salmon, beef and chicken. I chose the salmon flavor for my felines. When I opened the bag, my cat Jasmine immediately climbed up on my lap and tried to stick her nose in it. So, they must smell pretty tasty to her. The Hartz Crunch 'n Clean Cat Treats smell like cereal to me. Not bad, just like cereal.

Product Ingredients
The salmon-flavored Hartz Crunch 'n Clean Cat Treats contain: Corn Flour, Chicken Meal, Wheat Flour, Corn Gluten Meal, Poultry Fat, Dehulled Soybean Meal, Salmon Meal, Sodium Hexametaphosphate, Poultry Digest, Dried Brewers Yeast and Calcium Carbonate. Hartz Crunch 'n Clean Cat Treats also contain: Potassium Chloride, Salt, Choline Chloride, Lecithin, Vitamin E Supplement, Niacin Supplement, Vitamin A Supplement, Calcium Pantothenate, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement, Biotin, Thiamine Mononitrate, Folic Acid, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Menodione Sodium Bisulfite Complex and Ferrous Sulfate. Zinc Oxide, Manganese Oxide, Copper Sulfate, Cobalt Carbonate, Ethylenediamine Dihydriodide, Sodium Selenite, Mineral Oil, DL-Methionine, Taurine, Color Added (Titanium Dioxide, Yellow #6, Blue #1), BHA (A Preservative), BHT (A Preservative) and Mixed Tocopherols (A Preservative) finishes the long list of the ingredients in Hartz Crunch 'n Clean Cat Treats.

Taste Test and Conclusion
As I said, my cat Jasmine went nuts over the smell and flavor of Hartz Crunch 'n Clean Cat Treats. She eats most anything, so that wasn't a real test. When finicky Holly climbed up to see what I had, and ate some Hartz Crunch 'n Clean Cat Treats, that's when I decided they must taste good.

According to the company, just 5 Hartz Crunch 'n Clean Cat Treats fed to your cat twice a day will "block 3 times as much tartar formation as regular crunchy treats." These treats claim to be different than other cat treats because of a "patented ingredient DentaShield®." DentaShield works like fluoride in that it coats your cat's teeth to help protect them from tartar build up.

Hartz Crunch 'n Clean Cat Treats is recommended to be used in conjunction with regular tooth brushings, and professional cleanings by your vet.

There's really no way I'll know if Hartz Crunch 'n Clean Cat Treats is better for my feline's teeth than the competitors. Once they get tired of the salmon, beef and chicken flavors, I'll have to switch to another brand. The DentaShield advantage sounds good. According to the Hartz Crunch 'n Clean Cat Treats package, this product "...is clinically proven to reduce tartar by 75%." That sounds very good. If, by some odd chance my cats continue to eat Hartz Crunch 'n Clean Cat Treats without tiring of the flavors, I'll be able to tell if it's a better product than its competitors.

I prefer more "natural" cat treats but at least these don't have by-products in them. As you pointed out though, there is really no way to tell if they work -- and that goes for all cat treats that claim to clean our pets teeth. I give them treats more for the pleasure they get rather than teeth cleaning. I do brush my cats' teeth once in awhile but I daresay it will never be a pleasurable experience for either of us!

Thanks for this important feline tip. I just adopted a kitten, and he's so cute. I think I'm in love. His name is Scamper.

I will point these out to my daughter next time we're in the grocery store. She is always looking for new treats to buy the cats.

Nice review, although not letting son see it - he tried bringing a stray kitten home last night, no pets allowed where we live and no money for food, litterbox or treats either :( someday will again have a cat to keep me company though.
