Hartz Stay Off Training Aid: This Will Not Keep Pets Off Furniture

My Opinion of Hartz Stay Off Training Aid

Sabrina Martin
It's true; our pets love a comfy couch as much as we do. What's also true is that it seems impossible to keep pets off furniture. Even if you can successfully manage to prevent them from napping on or hooking their claws into the recliner while you're home, God only knows the second you walk out the door they're having a hay day with the sofa.

Faced with this issue myself, I, like you probably have, have tried almost everything over the years to keep pets off furniture. And although it's hard to tell you what works, since I have yet to discover a full proof way, it's a lot easier to share with you what doesn't work. After all, why should we all have to waste our time and money on products and techniques that don't work?

While I can't provide you with a way to keep pets off furniture, I'll share with you a way to not keep pets off furniture, and hopefully save you some time and money in the process.

Hartz Stay Off Training Aid. Have you heard of it? It comes in a purple aerosol can with the bright orange Hartz logo on it. The front of the can says, "Helps keep pets away from selected areas inside and outside your home." And I say, it doesn't help do anything, other than make your furniture smell worse than if you're wet dog slept on it every day for a month.

Hartz Stay Off Training Aid stinks. And yes, I mean that literally. I also mean that it stinks because it doesn't work. I used to work in a vet clinic a few years ago, and now I can see why this product was never on our shelves.

I really don't like to be so down on something, but I know the frustration that comes with trying to break a pet of bad habits. I know the frustration that comes from spending so much money trying to find a solution, only to have one thing after another fail.

So, how can you keep pets off furniture? I don't know. Time and patience I suppose. I've had some pets that over time just seemed to give up on the furniture thing and I've had others that no matter how much you sprayed the couch with repellent or squirted them in the face with a water bottle, wouldn't stay off the furniture.

If you're struggling to keep your pets off the furniture, I sympathize with you. I hope that you'll one day discover how to keep pets off furniture and perhaps let the rest of us pet owners know. But, while you keep searching for that magical solution, remember what I've said, and pass up that purple aerosol can in the pet store isle.

It must work for some or it wouldn't keep selling. My cat absolutely hates the smell. It's not exactly a pleasant smell, but it's tolerable to humans. It isn't horrible like a dirty litter box or something equally as disgusting. A person just has to try and find out for themselves. Each animal is different. It isn't a huge investment.

Agreed that the spray does nothing. All my dog seemed to do was roll on the couch to get the smell of the spray on her. As for finding a way to get her off the couch... hasn't happened. I've actually grown fond of her sitting next to me on the couch, so I've given up. Great review!
