Has Glenn Beck's Bawling Baby Bit Dried Up at Fox News?

Glenn Beck's Contract is Up for Renewal in December, and Santa May Not Bring Him a New One for Xmas

Connie Wilson
Word on the street is that Glenn Beck, the Cry Baby of all Cry Babies (until John Boehner was named Speaker of the House, anyway) may be on the way out at Fox. This has been reported on a number of blogs, after first being reported in the New York Times by David Carr.

Naturally, no one will confirm or deny that Beck's contract may not be renewed when it ends in December, but articles with titles like "Into A Dark Future" (David Carr, March 7, 2011, New York Times) or "Is Glenn Beck's Reign of Incomprehensible Weeping About to End" (J.D. Queerty's blog) are making the rounds.

Beck began at Fox in February of 2009, his first full month on the air. His ratings now are said to be about 2 million viewers a night, but that is down 50% in younger viewers and 40% in total viewers. It's been a gradual slide, with a -26% ratings slide in February and a -32% slide after that.

Still, not to worry about Bad Boy Beck, who moved to Fox from CNN Headline News to take over Fox's 5 p.m. news slot. He has a company, Mercury Radio Arts, which is said to pull in over $30 million annually in revenue, putting out everything from books on gay parenting (Beck is in favor of same sex marriage) to you-name-it.

Still, it can't feel good to be down the most of any Fox News Channel show, especially when tears come so easily.

  • Beck has fallen in the ratings by 50% in the important "young viewer" demographic.
Beck is no stranger to drug and alcohol abuse, before reforming.

The "sources" are listed over on the right. The Arbitron/Nielsen-type ratings were discussed in the New York Times and I mention several blogs that discussed Glenn Beck's precipitous drop in the ratings, as they were (the blogs) discussing what implications this might have for Mr. Beck's future on Fox, while remarking that he has his own production company that turns out a variety of product from which he profits mightily (books, etc.). So, I would first "google" the New York Times, but ratings are generally not too difficult to find for radio and TV shows, so you can also find by googling in that area.

Where did you get your numbers from?

  • Dan Andros quote (from C.W.)3/9/2011

Direct quote from Dan Andros' MySpace page (Dan Andros is the Producer for Mr. Beck's Mercury Radio Arts. This is the last paragraph of his MySpace page, which I researched for the article above: "Dan has since moved to Philadelphia to become the latest member of the Glenn Beck Program. When asked what a guy with such a passion for sports and sports broadcasting would even find remotely fun about working for a host (Glenn) who is sobbing every other day, who is constantly dieting and worrying about his figure, who is into interior home design, a host who knows nothing about and who could care less about sports?? Dan responded by saying, “Nothing, really. But thanks for reminding me chief, I appreciate it, no really, I do. ”

show, which may or may not be renewed in December if it continues to plummet in key demographic(s). I have no interest or opinion on whether he did or did not write a book on gay parenting, other than to say that such a book might be useful to gay parents. As for his sobbing on television, go out to Beck's own website, where one of his employees makes light of this facet of the boss. And please try to be civil when leaving comments on anyone's material. It is disrespect for differing points of view and mean-spirited sniping in Congress that has the country at a standstill. It certainly serves no useful purpose here, either. The reporting on the effect Beck's book had on the masses is/was accurate (see blogs above), but the article is about the documented drop in his ratings. Off 50% is noteworthy, whether, you, personally, like that fact or dislike it.

Normally, I wouldn't bother to list all the many writers who have called attention to Glenn Beck's book "The 7 Wonders that Will Change Your Life (written with Deith Ablow, MD) because the thrust of the article is the drastic drop in Glenn Beck's ratings on Fox, not the writing of his conglomerate, which encompasses many people. I would, however, like to point out a few blog links for those doubters who think that the idea of a gay parenting manual with or without Beck's participation, is ridiculous. Check these out for yourself. They are the sentiments of the writers, themselves, obviously, not mine: www.queerty.com/glenn.beck; www.mediate.com "Glenn Beck Promises He Didn't Write A Gay Parenting Handbook," by Jon Bershed, Jan 4, 2011; www.trueautism.newsvine.com, www.gayagenda.com, "Glenn Beck Reassures America He Did Not Write A Gay Parenting Book" and on and on and on. My article is about the precipitous drop in the ratings of his Fox sho

The problem is that he tells the truth.
You left wing liberals constantly lie about this man.Prove him wrong on anything major. You all called him insane when he said they would start
buying our own debt!If they take him off the air we can all thank George Sorro.
