Has Laura Bush Had a Face Lift ?

Julia Bodeeb
As Laura and George Bush prepare to leave Washington D.C. and move to ritzy Dallas rumors are flying that Laura Bush has had some work done on her face during her time as our nation's first lady. Has Laura Bush jumped on the cosmetic surgery trend with a face lift?

For women of a certain age, in very appearance-conscious Texas, a face lift is just ritual of life. Has Laura Bush joined in and had the knife taken to her face to erase some lines, wrinkles, and sagging? TMZ.com has some photos that seem to indicate Mrs. Bush has had herself rejuvenated for her new life in Dallas, according to TMZ.com.

Is aging naturally an option in Dallas or is it a social stigma? As the Bushes prepare to enter status conscious Dallas to return to an upper class private life, has Laura Bush decided to pretty herself up? Cosmetic surgery is a vice for many upper class women. Is Laura Bush just another woman in search of the fountain of youth?

As soldiers are dying in Iraq are cosmetic concerns on the mind of Laura Bush? How sad. Our nation is in crisis and the upcoming media buzz over the new life of George and Laura in ritzy Dallas will be nauseating enough. But if the TMZ reports are true and Laura Bush has had cosmetic surgery to prep for the country club life what does that say about the mindset of the first lady?

It is clear that Laura Bush is in denial: uttering reports of "My husband is not a failure" to the media. Is she also under the spell of the vapid American emphasis on youth that spooks older women into letting a surgeon carve up their face to achieve everlasting youth?

Ugh, the youth craze is a fad that will hopefully pass soon. My dermatologist once told me about a kind of laser to remove wrinkles and I told him I loved my grandmother's wrinkled face. She was in her 90s and her face was so adorable, wrinkles and all. I think aging naturally is the way to go.

Why risk all the hazards of surgery? And the thought of someone cutting into my face horrifies me. Why waste money on surgery and have a face that screams "face lift" to everyone who sees it?

We are all of the earth and we will all return to it. We have to accept the aging process. Jeez, it is a miracle to reach an elderly age. By then let's hope the emphasis is on wisdom, not beauty.

Ritzy Dallas? lol This former New Yorker got a bit of a chuckle out of that, having lived close to Dallas in another life. While I may not agree with the whole philosophy behind a culture that values looking young, I say hey, if you have the money and it makes you feel good, go ahead and celebrate being away from the stress and strain of the White House by getting a good facelift. Then go on a much-needed vacation. :)
