Has Lindsay Lohan in 'Inferno' Become a Bad Idea?

Use Your Head, Wilder?

Director Matthew Wilder says Lindsay Lohan in Inferno will remain. "We're not replacing her with another person," says Matthew Wilder, as reported at MTV. Lindsay Lohan checked herself into rehab voluntarily after posting $300,000 bail. A judge ordered her to remain in rehab until January rather than return to jail.

Worth the risk?

Inferno, the biopic about porn star Linda Lovelace, is slated to star Lindsay Lohan. What was scheduled to begin in November of 2010 must now wait until January when Lohan is released from rehab.

But is Wilder crazy for sticking with Lohan? Since 2007, Lindsay Lohan has been disrupting her career with DUI's and jail and drug rehabilitation stints. So far, nothing has worked for long. As the judge reminded Lindsay at her last court date, Lindsay Lohan is an addict who will spend the rest of her life keeping her addiction under control. "Relapse is part of recovery," said Shawn Chapman Holley, Lohan's attorney. But is it wise for Wilder to gamble? Says Wilder about people's concerns, "I share it. But there is a tremendous gift underneath all the obvious baggage."

If Lindsay Lohan in Inferno is a go, but the movie bombs anyway, what happens to Lohan?

Lohan's last film was Machete, a box office bomb. Machete did nothing to help Lohan's career. Couple that with her continued personal problems, and you have an actress that, if she can get her life together, needs a hit. If Wilder sticks to his word and uses Lindsay Lohan in Inferno, the movie has to be a hit for Lohan. That will help convince other productions that Lohan is worth the risk. But how much of a hit can a biopic about a porn star really be? In the end, Lohan is going to need some lucky breaks to get her back on track. What those will be remains to be seen.
