Has Michael Jackson's Death Been Over Covered by the Media?

The link to the article about a US soldier who died in Afghanistan tells of this solder and why their relatives also think there is to much Michael Jackson coverage. I mentioned in the original article about troops who have served our country not being recognized in the manner they should.

I can understand why 1st Lt. Brian N. Bradshaw's family is upset. The family of this fallen soldier makes some valid points in her letter to the Washington Post. Our soldiers deserve more respect than that.

Original Michael Jackson article below.

Don't get me wrong, I liked Michael Jackson's music. The media coverage of his death has been too extreme. The man died like so many other celebrities. Whether he died of a drug over dose or of natural causes, Michael Jackson's death doesn't have to be reported on a daily basis.

I feel his death has taken over more important things around the world. There are more important things happening like the riots in Iran and China, the missiles that were shot of by North Korea, the deaths of people in the war in Iraq and the riots, and many other high priority world issues.

Yet, Michael Jackson's death has trumped all those issues in the news media on television, the newspapers, magazines, and on the internet. There have been other celebrity deaths this year that didn't receive as much media attention as Jackson's death has.

Then to top it off, today, Tuesday, July 7, 2009, the media on six cable stations have had continuous coverage of his casket making it's way to where he was buried. This isn't including the coverage of the memorial at the Staples Center. Nor does it include the local stations that are going to interrupt regular scheduled programming for six hours to give their viewers the live coverage of his memorial in Los Angeles.

This leads me to the next issue and gripe about this memorial for Michael Jackson. The notoriety the tickets for this memorial received. That to me is just uncalled for and disrespectful to him and his death.

To me all the businesses, Staples especially, were looking to make even more money off of his death. While flipping through the channels to find something else to watch, I noticed one of the news stations stated that LA would prospectively get over $2 million in revenue from the memorial today. That is outside of the surge in sales from people buying Michael Jackson music and other memorabilia.

This is pure greed from businesses making this kind of money off of the death of Michael Jackson. Since he has been dead in less than two weeks, fourteen days, every day there has been something controversial in the news, somewhere, surrounding his life before his death and the events after his death.

I don't recall this much being presented to the world when Elvis Presley and Princess Diana died. Yes, I remember Princess Di's photos of her crash being shown all around the world and her funeral being shown, but I don't remember her being so newsworthy twenty-four hours a day seven days a week. The same goes with Elvis Presley. I remember several things being shown in the news, but not near as often as Michael Jackson.

The events surrounding David Carradine's death seem so far away compared to the death of Michael Jackson. What is even sadder is that Farrah Fawcett died the same day as he MJ did and she has been forgotten by the media already. This doesn't include all the other celebrities, military personnel, firefighters, police officers, and people around the world who have died in recent weeks.

With all the things that have surrounded Jackson's death, from his will, to his estate, his mother and father, his children, his funeral, and now his memorial, when will the media and the public get enough?

I think it should now be almost completely covered...just the burial left and hopefully not much court stuff.
