Has Microsoft Finally Taken a Bite Out of Apple's Popularity?

Is Microsoft the Comeback Kid?

Millionaire Hoy
Apple has always played the role of a cool, hip, and trendy company, but lately Microsoft has been beating Apple at their own game. Apple's latest releases have been met with "meh" acclaim, while Microsoft has been on a roll as of late.

If you've ever watched one of those "I'm a Mac, I'm a PC" commercials, you'd be watching a historical document of the way Apple and Microsoft used to be viewed. Apple used to play the role of the young and hip trendsetter, while Microsoft was portrayed as some old fart that was plagued with problems and was always out of date. Due to recent Microsoft and Apple products, the companies seem to have undergone role reversal.

The latest slew of Apple products weren't met with the usual fanfare Apple products are usually due. Snow Leopard, iPhone 3GS, and the iPad were met with shoulder shrugs and blank stares unlike products of the past. Consumers know that Apple can do better and they hold the company up to the highest standards, which is working against the company at the moment.

While Apple has been struggling publicly as a company, Microsoft seems to be on a roll. Products like Project Natal, Windows Phone 7, Windows 7, and the Microsoft Courier have brought acclaim back to the company that was made to look unhip in those "I'm a Mac, I'm a PC" commercials. People love to see the "comeback kid" and that appears to be Microsoft at the moment.

Steve Jobs is the Thomas Edison of gadgets and won't allow his company to take a beating by the likes of Microsoft, but the high prices and lack of creativity over at the Apple company in recent years are giving Microsoft an opportunity to bring their products to the light and outshine Apple. So far the scorecards still have Apple in the lead by a lot, but Microsoft is starting to take the company lead, and if Apple doesn't start trumping Microsoft at future launches, they'll have to start lowering the cost of those overly priced products they market to compete with new public champion, Microsoft.
