Has Technology Really Made Our Generation Different from Our Grandparents?

Aiman
Generation gap is the difference in views of today's generation and the older generation. Generation gap has resulted today primarily from modern technology. The birth of technology has changed the lifestyles of people. Man has stepped from his primitive past to a modern present.

Parents tend to think and act moderately where their children are concerned but grandparents go to the extreme to base their own values. Their beliefs and values are at stake in the face of technology. For example the introduction of computers has changed the youth of today. Average grandparents do not know how to even start a computer. This is startling since everything is handled on computers. From multinationals to sole trader accounts and stock handling information etc is kept on computers. Where computers are a blessing for us they are a curse to our grandparents. They believe that it threatens the peace and health of youth today. Young children play games on computers and constant looking at the computer screen is hazardous for eyesight and hair.

The internet has posed problem to the parents and grandparents internationally. The internet has opened with it many restricted areas. For example pornographic images are easily accessible on the net. Grandparents are shocked and increasingly alarmed when they realise that the internet is exploiting their cultural values. In their times access to pornography was a crime. Internet has also introduced chatting which is a terrible waste of time. Grandparents firmly adhere to accurate spending of their time. They believe in sleeping early and rising with the birds. Whereas, today's youth believes in sleeping when the birds rise. A good movie on the television or surfing on the internet demands their night's sleep

The 'era of mobiles' have made communication a lot faster. People are more aware of what is going around the world. Match scores can instantly be viewed on mobiles. Radios which were a precious form of communication have become outdated. Messages can easily be sent and received in a matter of few minutes. Our grandparents went through the elaborate tasks of writing a letter, stamping it, posting it and going through the process of mailing. They believe that words stamp the emotions better on the heart. But now writing letters have become old fashioned. Messages are either sent through mobiles or emails.

The introduction of modern medicines and radiotherapy has reduced the risk from many incurable diseases, but has also decreased the life span of an average person. The new generation is at a greater risk of dying early. Modern medicines have major side effects and powerful effects on the human system. Our grandparents live up to the ages of 80 and 90 but today people can only live up to 60 on average.

To conclude today's life and he older life are as different as the Sun and the Moon. Technology has wiped out all the old practices. The older lifestyle has become obsolete. We cannot tread on the path trodden by our grandparents because technology has brought with it enormous hardships. Life was a lot better in the earlier days.

No evidence or citations! No documentation of the life span evolving or on the proof of computer viewing causing more vision and affecting our hair? Come on that's all you got.
