Hasbro Recalls the Nerf N-Recon CS-6 Blaster

More Than 330,000 Nerf Blasters Are Being Recalled

L.E. Duncan
Hasbro, cooperating with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has announced a voluntary product recall for the Nerf N-Recon CS-6 Blaster. According to this recall report, there have been 46 reported injuries of children ages six and up with injuries that include bruising, pinching, abrasions, blisters and welts to the face, neck and chest.

The Nerf N-Recon CS-6 Blaster is a weapon that shoots standard Nerf Streamline Darts. The blaster has five interchangeable parts including the shoulder stock, a flip-up sight, barrel extension, an ammunition clip, and tactical light assembly that allow the user to configure the gun into several different styles of weapon. The Nerf Blaster was originally sold for under $20.00 at Wal-Mart, Target, Toys "R" Us and other discount stores beginning in November of 2007.

This recall does not affect all Nerf N-Recon Blasters. The recalled blasters are orange and yellow with a black "Nerf" logo on the side above the ammo clip receptacle. "Recon CS-6" is imprinted in the grey "slide" of the weapon. On the recalled toy, the orange plunger at the rear of the blaster is exposed (see photo). The recall does not include blasters that already have a cap over the rear plunger (see photo). The recalled blaster's model number is 63552 and a UPC code 653569272021 or 653569311218 could be found on the original packaging.

Recalled Nerf Blasters should be immediately taken away from children to prevent possible injury. Hasbro has developed a kit to fix/modify the toy. Parents/consumers can contact Hasbro at 1-800-245-0910 or use Hasbro's web form to report and order the replacement/additional required parts and installation instructions. The replacement kit is simply a cover/cap that fits over the exposed plunger.

Nerf has had a relatively good track record with recalls. They have had one other product they have had to recall in the past four years. In 2004, The Nerf Big Play Football was recalled for causing facial lacerations under the right conditions.

This safety recall was originally published by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission on October 9, 2008. It is being republished because consumers shopping at discount stores during the holiday season should stay informed and shop smart. Discount stores may still be selling this Nerf Blaster. Safety recalls issued by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission require that a store remove the product from the shelves, but is rarely enforced. Be an informed consumer!
