Hate Mondays? How to Learn to Love Them

Lauren Romano
The word "Monday" can cause many to cringe. If you are part of any social networking site, you will notice many people on Sunday expressing how much they are not looking forward to the following day; you may be one of them. Changes in your lifestyle and routine can turn Mondays from a day of dread to one you love.

Work at a Job You Love

There seems to be more people that do not like their jobs then people that love them. When you love your job, you are more likely to be excited to be there. You do not need to spend all that time being unhappy, especially on Mondays when you know you have the rest of the week ahead of you.

Make Monday Your Spa Day

Each Monday, make plans to do something to pamper yourself. Get a massage, get or give yourself a manicure and pedicure or take a bubble bath. When you do it after work, it can give you something relaxing to look forward to. If you have time to do it on your lunch hour, it may help you to stay relaxed throughout the rest of the day.

Plan Time Out Each Monday

Many people wait until the end of the week to grab a drink with friends, go on a date or see a movie, but try switching it up to Mondays. It will give you something to look forward to in the beginning of the week instead of having to wait through the entire workweek.

Avoid Postponing Tasks Until Monday

If you are someone that slacks a bit on Friday or postpones errands and phone calls until Monday, you may be creating more stress and dread for yourself. On Friday, fire yourself up and tackle as much work as possible so you can have the weekend to relax and you will not have to face a mountain of tasks to do on Monday.

Positive Thinking

Having negative thoughts about Monday can only increase the amount of loathing you have for the day. Every time a negative thought pops up, change it to a positive one. For example, when you complain about a Monday morning meeting, think something positive about how you have a job and get paid. Instead of thinking how there are five more days until the weekend, change the thought to how after Monday is over, it is one day completed in the workweek.

Mondays do not have to be as stereotypically awful as one may think. With a little planning and positive thinking, it could turn into a day you look forward to.

You have some great suggestions, especially the ones about not postponing things to do until Monday and thinking positively. Great job!

Our solution was to turn Mondays into "homemade pizza night," which was something everyone could look forward to :). Now that the kids are grown, I will have to try some of your wonderful ideas.
