Haunted America: True Celebrity Ghost Stories

Don Most & Gena Lee Nolin Share Their Personal Paranormal Encounters

Sherri Granato

In surveys concerning the paranormal, it has been indicated that many people believe in some type of unexplained phenomenon, and the majority of these people involved with the surveys claim that they have personally encountered a ghost, spirit, apparition, demon, poltergeist or something else that they identified with as being from another realm or life. In a more recent study that detailed active ghost stories from reliable sources, seventy-five percent of the people interviewed believed that certain events that take place on our planet simply cannot be explained, even though most scientists theorize that there is a reasonable explanation for these odd happenings, and that it has nothing to do with an afterlife filled with spirits aimlessly walking through peoples homes, businesses and other personal spaces. Yeah well, try telling that one to the celebrities that personally encountered a vision of hair raising activity that came directly from the other side.

Celebrities typically make painstaking attempts to keep their personal life as private as can be due to their unusual circumstances of being famous. And of course they are the public target of adoring fans that simply refuse to allow them the peace and sanctity that they seek, but rarely find. Unfortunately for a few of these stars, they have found no way to completely free themselves from annoying disturbances that have been brought on by the humans that adore them, and it becomes even more difficult to deal with when those humans are in fact deceased. Fortunately, a few of these celebrities have decided to come forward and share the details of their experiences when they were forced to deal with unexpected paranormal activity that came their way by chance, circumstance or by luck.

Don Most is most easily recognized by his fans as the Happy Days star known as "Ralph Malph". During the summer of 1972, when Don was only 19 he was dating a young girl who was also looking to break into showbiz. One evening when Don and his girlfriend were sitting at her kitchen counter they dove into an odd discussion with her mother about his girlfriend's deceased grandmother visiting the home on a regular basis. His girlfriend's mother described strange events that took place in the home after her death, from appliances mysteriously turning on and off to her favorite chair being oddly displaced into a 180 turn even though nobody had sat in the chair previously. Don's girlfriend even went into detail of how she had once witnessed her grandmother sitting in the chair, and she had seen her ghost many different times through her life walking throughout the house.

At approximately one o'clock in the morning Don decided it was time to go home, and feeling quite spooked while driving along Palisades Interstate Parkway alone late at night his mind kept replaying the earlier events of the evening concerning paranormal activity. Don describes his ride home a bit unnerving as the desolate area of Bear Mountain Parkway was void of people, street lights and other vehicles for long stretches of time. At a point of total darkness and steep, winding roads, Don immediately feels a disturbing presence in the back seat of his vehicle that he says totally freaked him out and it fell into territory that totally crosses the line from his personal beliefs. The wise cracking star claims that he was utterly terrified, and he actually went over the edge of fear when the radio suddenly burst to life amidst the deafening silence. He claims that the whole experience opened his mind up in a really big way after encountering his smack in the face with a direct hit from the other side.

Playboy model and Baywatch babe, Gena Lee Nolin who played Neely Capshaw on the popular show was quickly reminded that the space she dwelled in was not hers at all, but actually belonged to the entity that was terrorizing her. At 18 Gena was attending college in Las Vegas, and to save on money she rented a room in the home of a local couple, who luckily for Gena was rarely home. The house by all appearances was the American dream home, complete with a white picket fence. However within two weeks Gena realized that the house was anything but normal. The long hallway leading to her room always gave the distinct feeling that there was somebody hovering over her back, and once in her room, the lights would flicker in a way that could only come from a source that tethered on the edge of something demonic. Gena's car keys would mysteriously disappear, and then turn up on the kitchen floor or the guest bathroom in the home.

Despite the beauty of the house, these horrifying events happening on a regular basis started a slow build up that made Gena aware of her place in the house she had originally loved. Her comfort level was never allowed to kick in as she was constantly reminded that something dark from the other side was always there watching her. One particular event that Gena found particularly disturbing involved waking up to the smell of food being prepared and the eerie sound of pots and pans clanking during a strange breakfast ritual where nobody was actually cooking at all. Loud opera music completed the session of ghosts 101 in Gena's new home, but upon investigating further, she found an extremely cold empty space in an area that would otherwise be 110 degrees in the hot Nevada desert.

Gena quickly realized that the entity in the house was not a good one, and it wanted her to leave at any cost. She left, but later came back to explain the details of what she had experienced to the owners. They became white faced with her description, and told Gena that there was in fact a ghost living in the dwelling. They contacted a Priest who performed the holy water cleansing, dealt with the slamming doors and other angry outbursts from the raging demon, but nothing changed. She knew that the entity was not going to leave, so Gena felt like she had to. Upon descending the home she felt a forceful power pushing her out the door, and then it slammed shut.

Gena later learned that the house was built over an old cemetery where murdered members of the mafia were laid to rest, or in some cases, anything but at rest. Years later Gena tells us the story of her ghostly encounter, even though she is not entirely comfortable discussing the very real events involving the ghost that was tormenting her simply because of how most people react to paranormal circumstances. Gena feels strongly that most people cannot even begin to apprehend what happened to her as being true, but she states that once it has happened to you it changes your whole perspective on ghosts being the real deal.
