Do you believe in ghosts? Many residents of Arkansas have made reports of seeing, feeling, hearing and being touched by those beyond the grave.

CalhounCounty, Hampton, Arkansas

The apparition of an old man in a confederate uniform has been reported on Tinsman Highway. Small objects, such as car keys, are reported to suddenly come up missing in the area, as well as, travelers vehicles stalling out.

CarrollCounty, Eureka Springs, Arkansas

At the Crescent Hotel in Eureka Springs, several apparitions have taken up permanent residency and enjoy making their presence known to staff and guests alike.

In room 218, a male apparition, described as muscular with blue eyes and blonde hair, likes to turn the television and lights on and off and seems to enjoy annoying guests by pounding on the stone walls.

This apparition's name is Michael and he was formerly a carpenter. Between the years of 1884 - 1886, Michael fell to his death from the second floor (room 218) during the construction of the building.

One of Michaels more amusing tricks happened on the second floor when he held the end of a laundry cart that a maid was relentlessly trying to pull out of a closet. After much struggle on the maids' part, Michael finally let go and the maid was able to resume her duties.

ClarkCounty, Arkadelphia, Arkansas

At the Henderson State University, Arkansas Hall, an entity named Simon haunts the theatre. Simon likes to flip theatre seats up and spends most of his time in the balcony section. Patrons and employees have reported laughing and footsteps being heard. Simon has also been reported to drop various objects onto the stage from the ceiling.

In Ouachita Baptist University, also in Arkadelphia, orbs, eyes, blood on the walls and breaking windows have been reported by dorm residents. These occurrences usually happen after dark but the orbs can be seen in the basement of the building during daylight or nighttime hours.

DrewCounty, Monticello, Arkansas

LeDell Allen, daughter of Joe Lee Allen, killed herself in the old Allen House by drinking cyanide. Over the years, residents of the old Allen estate have made reports of footsteps, strange noises and moaning. One tenant tried to trap the apparition in a closet as the ghost laughed at them! Another tenant; a doctor, took pictures of the girl's apparition in as it reflected in a mirror. Also, Carol Wilson, an author and former resident, based her book, Scent of Lilac, on the incidents that she experienced in the house.

FaulknerCounty, Conway, Arkansas

Dormitory residents of the University of Central Arkansas have made reports of some unseen body lying down in their beds next to them at night! Others have claimed that objects have blown around their room when there was no air moving in the room. Things are often moved or disappear altogether and one person even claimed they felt someone pull on their belt loop.

JohnsonCounty, Coal Hill, Arkansas

In the Opossum Walk Cemetery, visitors to the gravesites have made reports of walking the trail around the cemetery and hearing someone walking behind them. It is also said that whispers can be heard at night by some unseen entity. Some however, have reported seeing apparitions out of the corner of their eye but when they turned, the ghost was gone.

So, I ask you again, do you believe in ghosts?

I definetly believe since I have lived in a haunted house myself. The Old Hawkins Homestead was originaly a one room school house in Old Hickory, Conway County, AR. Over the years it was expanded and served as a private residence as well as a church at one time. Eventualy the Hawkins family built another home and the house served as a rental property. This is how my husband daughter and I came to live in the house. We were there for two years and even though none of us ever saw a corporeal spirit several overnight guests claimed to have seen an older lady and two children. Of couse we had felt these presences befor we never forwarned these guests as to what they might see. As for our family we heard and scensed things mainly.

I know a few people from Ouachita Baptist - definitely would be a cool place to ghost hunt.
