Haunted Attractions in San Francisco

Looking for a good scare this Halloween season in the San Francisco area? There there are plenty of great options available. While San Francisco is known for its actual haunted attractions, there are a lot of really good places to have a good and frightful time.

Cursi's House of Screams

You want screams? Who better to get them from good old Dr. Satan himself? Located on Lewis way in Concord, CA, Cursi's House of Screams is a fun, free haunted house for people of all ages, though it is not recommended for younger guests. They do, however, cater to groups and do some things to lower the fear factor for guests who are faint of heart.

The premise is based on the story of a legend, Dr. Satan, whose tale begin to spread around the mid-1800's. He was believed to have been involved with the deaths of several people along the continental railroad. He made claims of being able to lengthen life by switching out the body parts of the dead with the body parts of the living, which brought to question his medical practices.

While is only open the last two weekends of October, this haunted house packs in quite the crowd, and is free admission to the public. Donations are accepted, which gives you the option to give some money to keep it going.

Fear Manufactured in 3D

While you're on the way to San Jose, stop by Gyro's 4D Fear Factory. It's been around for 21 years, and to do that in this business, you have to be good at scaring people. It's billed as a 4-dimensional, (oddly enough, the fourth dimension is smell.)

Located at the Raging Waters Park in San Jose, Gyro's 4D Fear Factory is open only for the month of October.

Open Thursday-Sunday, the Fear Factory's hours are Thursdays and Sundays 7-10, and Fridays and Saturdays 7-Midnight.

The attractions are obviously not recommended for people who have epilepsy, pregnant women, or people with heart problems, the usual fare, for most amusement park rides. But I don't see it being any scarier than your average haunted attraction.

This haunted attraction is actually priced with admission to the amusement park, which makes a side trip for you. Admission is $29.99 per person which is quite expensive for if you only want to a haunted house.
