Haunted Buffalo: Ghosts of the Queen City Book Review

Ghosts Are in Abundance in This Western New York City

Tricia Urlaub
Haunted Buffalo by Dwayne Claud and Cassidy O'Connor is a ghosthunter's dream guide to the "Queen City."As one would expect, it is chock full of well-known haunted locations, as well as others most have likely never heard about. Coupled with each entry is a brief history of the site, designed not only interest the reader but to give possible explanation as to who or what is responsible for the haunting. Although these entries are sometimes peppered with cliches, the overall enthusiasm for the writer's obvious love of ghosthunting shines through.

Some of the more notable entries include: The Buffalo Psychiatric Center, complete with first-person accounts and an extensive and interesting lesson in its history; The Grand Island Holiday Inn includes the story of Tanya, the ghost girl; A well-researched and fascinating debunking of Goodleberg Cemetery, one of Western New York's supposed "most haunted cemeteries"; various Buffalo businesses like Shannon Enterprises; The Lockport Cave System (reading about it will make you want to visit for sure); and unexplained events surrounding the Devil's Hole, a 26 foot deep cave the Native American's respected and mythologized.

The guide also includes a "crash course" in ghosthunting for those just starting out. This section is especially useful because it compares old ghosthunting gadgets to new ones, as well as the best ones to use in specific situations.

At the end of the book is a guide on paranormal terms, and a list of paranormal groups in the Western New York area.

All in all, Haunted Buffalo is a well-researched, easy to use guide to the hottest ghost spots in Western New York, a must have for any paranormal researcher.
