Haunted Georgia Locations

SE
Numerous locations throughout Georgia are supposedly haunted. What follows are just a few of these places and their ghosts.

Georgia's Shakespeare Tavern is a very active site. Two individuals dressed in 19th Century clothing have been seen more than once. Odd lights and shadows, as well as unexplained voices, have also been experienced. Dark figures are sometimes spotted moving along the catwalk over the tavern's stage.

Georgia's Augusta State University played a role in the Civil War - a mansion on the grounds, which is now the Admissions Office, served as Confederate headquarters. A Confederate soldier has been seen by many, wandering the property. He enters a cemetery and quickly disappears.

The Georgian town of Marietta is home to the Kennesaw House and the Marietta Cemetery. The Kennesaw House was used as a Civil War hospital. Today, many hear unexplained noises or see soldiers or doctors, especially on the lower floor. The cemetery is haunted by a young girl, who kneels by her parents' graves. She vanishes when approached.

Savannah, Georgia's Sorrel Weed House also has Civil War connections. General Sorrel, the youngest Confederate General, called it home. General Robert E. Lee and General William T. Sherman visited the home. This house is haunted, and the television show Ghost Hunters did a feature on it in 2005. The investigators were able to record a woman screaming. This female ghost could be a slave or General Sorrel's wife, who killed herself at the house.

In Whitfield County, an area known as Tunnel Hill or the Western Atlantic Tunnel was the site for several Civil War battles. Both Confederate and Union soldiers have been spotted, and screams can be heard in the nearby woods. Also, in the 1900s a man on a circus train had an unfortunate accident that resulted in his decapitation. Ghosts and strange campfires or lanterns have also been seen in and near the tunnel. Some have also reported smelling rotting flesh.

The Holland Tire Company in Georgia's Worth County is haunted by a man who was killed at that location by the FBI. (He had apparently been running from the FBI and was caught there). Some see a shadow or feel a cold spot when they drive by. Employees have heard strange noises.

A janitor named Jesse who worked in the Dobbs Theatre at Young Harris College in the early 1990s loved theatre. He participated in some productions. One day he died in a car accident on his way home from work, and he hasn't left the theatre since. People have heard chairs moving in the storage room. A motion sensor light will turn on when the room is empty and locked. Footsteps and other movement in the catwalks are common as well.
