Looking for some local fun the week before Halloween? Why not try out Lemont Village Association's Haunted Granary? This year's haunted nights will be October 23rd and 24th from 6:30 to 10:00pm (the granary maze) and 6:30-11(the Bash).

Every year folks from Lemont, teenagers from State College High and the Delta Program, scouts, retirees and an assortment of other characters who love Halloween, about 150 all together, decorate and create a haunted granary. Every year the granary comes out a little bit different, but every year it's a little bit more fun!

Tickets are $8. for Granary entry and Halloween Bash, $2 for the Bash alone. They may be purchased at the door, 133 Mt. Nittany Road, Lemont, PA, 16851. There will be parking and a shuttle available down the street at Mt. Nittany Methodist Church, 1500 E. Branch Road. Or, if you're coming from downtown State College, the "M" bus will pick you up on College Av. and bring you to the site.

This year's Granary features a scare-filled maze, haunted scenes by "Heidi Reese", a performance in the "Dinky Shed", two skits, a trip through the fabulous haunted bus (watch your feet!) and a visit to the witches' domain.

After your trip through the Granary, stay for the brand-new Bash. Music by Ken Reese, zombies appearing to dance to "Thriller", fog, lighting, sound effects, tons of terrific thrills. Food will be provided by Packer's Concessions. Along with traditional fare like hot dogs and hamburgers, there will be pumpkin pie with whipped cream, Halloween candy, hot chocolate and Halloween cookies. And if you come in a killer costume, for only $1. you can participate in the 1st annual Costume Contest. A winner will be chosen for each night, will win $20. cash and have their photo posted on the Granary website.

Kids under eight, or those who are more easily spooked, are encouraged to attend the more kid-friendly event from 1-3 on Saturday the 24th. Along with a more gentle version of the haunted maze, there will be face-painting, mask making and other events. The cost is $1. for adults and free for the kids.

The Haunted Granary has been hosted by the Lemont Village Association for the past 13 years. Admission fees from the Haunted Granary help continue ongoing preservation work on the John I. Thompson Grain Elevator and Coal Sheds built in 1855. Some of the funds are also used to produce the Haunted Granary itself. It is a yearly favorite of area tweens and teens and should not be missed!
