House of Pain. The House of Pain is the former Eastman Dental Dispensary. Founded by philanthropist George Eastman (Kodak founder) in 1917, the dispensary improved the oral hygiene of those who otherwise couldn't afford proper dental care. After being abandoned for nearly 20 years, the dispensary was bought by David Gray in 2007.
Now called The House of Pain, the former Eastman Dental Dispensary is the scariest haunted house attraction in Rochester, NY. Why? Because it really is haunted! Then there's the staged fundraiser type of haunted house in Rochester, NY:
Boy Scout Troop 292 of Chili Haunted House. Troop 292 has hosted a haunted house every year since 1991. In 2008, they moved to their new location in Westmar Plaza.
I've been to this haunted house with a group of Cub Scouts who were not smiling when they came out. I asked them if it was more scary or fun, and they replied, "Scary." They never wanted to go back. As an adult, I would say that this is indeed creepy. It also has the watch-out-for-people-jumping-out-at-you element, which most horror fans enjoy. This is a good haunted house for older kids and adults who enjoy being scared.

What a rip off! Went on the 10PM Terror tour. We had a total group of about 25 people on this tour. I had been informed via email from this touring company that if the tour had over 10 participants that the cost per person would only be $10. The tour guide still charged everyone $20. For $20/person I was expecting something magical. Instead I received something A LOT less than that. It was a tour on the side walk spoken through a megaphone - a tour that only walked about 2-500 yards down 1 single block. The guide gave us some history and background about the graveyard and a couple of ghost stories, but that's about it. They let us play with dousing rods at the end of the tour, but that was the only thing worth-while. I'm still trying to figure out where the "terror" part figured in? The only people in costume were the ones leading the tour. This was really a $5-10 tour. The guides just took advantage of the customers. For $20, they should have additionally provided cider, donuts, a pamphlet with some background info, and/or a t-shirt that said “I survived the Mt. Hope Cemetery Ghost Walk”. End note: Don't waste your time or money. They obviously took advantage of us. If you want the real deal, do an actual tour through Mt. Hope cemetery through the cemetery directly.
The dispensary isn't, nor has it ever been, owned by David Gray.
It is owned by joann Dzwigal and run by her and many faithful friends. Credit should be given where it is due. :)
I work at the house of pain and I have heard seen and felt stuff through out the bulinding. I do have alot of fun scaring people but at the same time I really wonder if people see what I see on a daily basies
These places have clever titles. I love haunted houses!
What fun! The only Halloween attraction around here is the life-size green-eyed mechanical witch at the local hardware.
These sound fun and spooky. Daughters and I are going to visit a 'haunted castle' in October. I might write about the experience!!!
