Haunted Hot Spots in Cabell County, West Virgina

Paranormal Locations in Cabell County

Amy Witthohn
Cabell County was established from Kanawha County in 1809 when the area was still a part of the state of Virginia. The county seat has changed several times throughout our history, originally located at Barboursville, and is currently the city of Huntington, with a population of about 50,000. Most of the city is in Cabell, but a small portion, mainly the area of Westmoreland, is in Wayne County, This history was found on http://www.rootsweb.com/~wvcabell/.

Now that we have a little history about Cabell County lets talk about those ghosts and haunted places.......

Barboursville- Swan Cemetery- Several pictures taken here with ghostly images appearing on them.

Barboursville- Western Regional Jail- This Jail was built in 2003 after moving a family cemetery to make room for this jail, some of the strange happenings include strange noises and opening of doors.

Huntington- 5th Street Hill- The case of the vanishing woman, this story is very interesting and it has been reported for the last 50 years, A young woman stands at the side of the road to hitch a ride, she has been reported being seen more often after midnight. Then after riding in silence for a while in the car, she just vanishes. Her story is told like this After getting married in Wayne, The newly married couple were traveling with her parents, and it starts to rain. Very heavily and as the rain poured down, the car lost control. Right at the corner of Fifth Street before the bridge, The car overturned killing the girl. And for the past 50 years she has been spotted there, hitching rides.

Huntington- Colonial Lanes- Several instances of voices, the feeling of a presence, footsteps, and images in photographs.

LeSage- Green Bottom Cemetery- This cemetery is a paranormal hot spot, with EVP'S and ghosts being a common sight.

Huntington- Keith Albee Theatre- Several people claim to have felt a presence on the stairway that follows you to the bathroom, and then leaves.

Huntington- River Park Hospital- A woman assumed to be a nurse has been seen numerous times in this hospital, not wanting to leave.

Milton- Mountaineer Opry House- Many reports of hearing a ghostly instrument playing, and the feeling of a presence behind you while on the stage.

As you can tell Cabell is a great place to visit, if you are looking for a ghost. Or just to visit a beautiful county.

I live life to the fullest extent that I can, I have 2 daughters 11 months apart and the antics that they do on a daily basis will keep me on my toes for a long time.  View profile
