Haunted Houses and Tours in the San Francisco Bay Area

Ghost Hunting in Haight-Ashbury and Visiting the Winchester Mystery House

k. ferguson
There is a haunted house in San Francisco. Yes, you read it right: a true haunted house in the City by the Bay! Where is it you ask? Well, you will need to take the tour to find out. Is it one house, or is it two? Is it a hotel or maybe more? I don't know and I don't know if I want to know. This tour will teach you all about the macabre in the Haight-Ashbury, and leave you not only jumping out of your skins; it will have you glued to your free guidebook! The host is a locally renowned ghost hunter who has appeared on many radio shows and events. He will walk you through all the gory and ghostly history possible. He is a resident of the area and knows it all.

Tickets for this event sell out fast, so if this is the event for you, then I would act quickly! You can purchase tickets at this link brownpapertickets.com or by calling 1-800-838-3006. This tour will not take you into anyone's actual home, but more of a foot journey through the history of the ghostly haunting of Haight-Ashbury!

Your tour guide is the founder and president of The San Francisco Ghost Society. The tour leaves at 7 pm sharp, and they recommend that you wear comfortable shoes and a warm jacket. San Francisco is beautiful, but when the fog rolls in, it gets downright chilly!

The tour ends at a supposedly haunted pub! Imagine the eerie fog rolling in from the bay, creepy sounds all around and then ending a chilly evening in a possibly haunted pub! What is that behind you! Boo!

Tickets for this event are $20.00, and you get to keep the guidebook and map. The tour meets at 1206 Masonic Avenue, Coffee to the People. For a map, click this link supplied by the website: mapquest.com/maps/map.

For those who like to stay for an after party, the next day they celebrate Day of the Dead! Ask for details when you call or email them. Here is their site. hauntedhaight.com

For something a bit creepier, and less macabre, you can head south to San Jose and visit the Winchester Mystery House. It is said that Sarah Winchester was haunted with the guilt of what her husband's gun had done to so many people. It is said, by the many people who live near the house and have told the stories for years and years, that she was told by a psychic to build and build and build rooms that had doors to nowhere, staircases that went to the ceiling, all to confuse the spirits of those who had died by the famous weapon.

Halloween flashlight tours are always a hit and sell out fast. I know some people that did the tour every year, and always learned something new about that house! There are 160 rooms in this mansion, three working elevators and 47 fireplaces! For more information on the history of this house, click here winchestermysteryhouse.com. I had the chance to be a tour guide there about 16 years ago, and I decided it was not for me. If you are in the area and need a reason to scratch your head, then this is a wonderful place to visit.

Those two ghostly tours sound so great to do but wahhh I don't live on the West Coast so it's not possible to do it! If only when I'd come out for a short visit with my hubby on his truck if we could take the time to do these two tours! I know he'd love it cuz he loves to scare the heebie jeebies out of me! LOL I might would be tempted to leave him in the Winchester House! LOL Just kidding but thank you for this intriguing article cuz it sure makes me want to go on the tours! Great job writing it!
