Haunted Places in Antioch, CA: Digging for Ghosts at the Black Diamond Mines
There are abundant reports from locals describing disturbing encounters while visiting the coal fields. Some of these spirit seekers are curious enough, or brave enough, to visit the area at night where the sound of shovels and tools are heard still laboring away. Voices in unfamiliar languages have also been reported, which makes sense considering the residents of the mining towns came from all over the world to work.
Another widely known local spirit is Sarah Norton, a midwife and widow of Noah Norton, who founded one of the mining towns, Nortonville. Sarah was crushed to death in a tragic buggy accident on her way to deliver a baby in October of 1879. The eerie legend begins where her life ended. The town attempted on two occasions to give her a proper, "Christian" burial; both attempts failed when the skies opened up unexpectedly with nasty storms. Sightings of her have long been reported; she usually appears as a white figure walking amongst the graves of the Rose Hill Cemetery. She has been called "The White Witch" by some, while others believe her presence is meant only for watching over the children who perished during the mining days.
Whether you're a resident of Antioch or just in the area, check out the Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve some time and maybe you'll get to meet one of our city's resident ghosts as well.

I use to live in Antioch. my grandfather went there when he was younger both he and his friends saw her the story has gone on for a long time and i am a definetly a believer of ghost. For i feel spirits and am empathic want to go there again but i moved. first i have to stay in my 1800's inn before i go there.

Hay buffo you are correct: Hanna vaughn is The White Witch i used to date her great granddaughter. Before she told me about her experances: I was going to take her up to the mines, she asked me were are we going; "I told her" i thought we could take a walk up at the mines. She told me that how she could not go there, because and how she would freeze up and also when she was a younge girl in her dreams, hanna would come and visit her. I looked at her like she was crazy. Well we crossed that property line i looked over at her, she was a whith as a ghost and the most scared look that i had ever seen on another a humans face also i put my hand on her face and she felt like ice. I dam near turned that car around on a dime and just when we crossed back over the property line her color came back and her face started to warm back up "so help me god"
