Springfield, Ohio is a place I spent a good portion of my teenage years. Until I was seventeen, it seemed like the only guys I ever dated were those who lived in Springfield or at least lived near the town. Back then it was exciting to head to those supposedly haunted places and see what we could experience. Here you'll find not only the stories, but also my own experiences at those haunted places in Springfield.

Gunn Road was once the site or a grisly hit and run or so says local legend. A little boy was playing on the road when a car came out of nowhere, hit him and then quickly left. If you park your car on the exact spot where the boy was hit, your car will instantly die. It won't start again until after you push it away.

The only thing we experienced on Gunn Road was a lot of kissing. It's interesting that no one seems to know the exact spot where you're supposed to park. I've heard five different locations as to the "real" spot and I've been on each one, but never experienced anything odd or strange. Our cars always started right away and sadly no one ever came out of the woods either.

The Myes Hall on the Wittenberg campus is haunted by a horse of all things. According to legend, this building was used during the Civil War as a hospital and a soldier there wanted to se his horse one last time before he died. The staff brought his horse in, but later shot it when they couldn't get the horse to leave. Stories claim that the horse can be heard running through the building, but I never heard it.

Springfield's North High School is haunted by two little kids who were buried there. The land where the auditorium was built was where a local children's home buried their dead. Prior to building the auditorium the graves were moved, but their two headstones were lost. Supposedly the boy and girl like to run around playing in the auditorium and others have heard them laughing.

I've been to the Springfield North High School auditorium during school plays and I didn't see anything strange. However I have heard from a number of former students who claim they either saw the ghosts of the children or heard what sounded like a child giggling backstage.

If you visit Cedar Bog near Springfield, you'll notice a huge chain link fence in place. My father used to tell me there were a lot of animals in the area and the fence was built to stop the number of animals killed on the road. Others claim a large creature once ran loose through the area and the fence was erected to keep it inside. Now people claim to feel someone watching them and hearing someone screaming.

Cedar Bog definitely has a creepy feeling to it. When we visited, we all felt as if someone was watching us, but that could have been anything. I also felt uncomfortable like we shouldn't be there and when someone else seconded my thoughts, we left. Right before we left, we heard something rustling in the bushes. Was it a wild animal or something a little more sinister?

Last on my list is the George Rogers Clark Park where people have seen the ghosts of Indians and Clark wandering around. There are also stories of a house where people see someone looking at them, even though the house is empty. Supposedly you can see the person inside even while driving on Route 4.

First I'm sad to say that I've never seen the ghost looking at me from the house, despite the fact that I've driven down Route 4 hundreds of times over the years. Either it doesn't exist or the ghost just doesn't like me. Also I've been in the park dozens of times and never found any ghosts or anything even remotely strange.

Though I've had some odd experiences in Springfield over the years, I haven't come face to face with a ghost. Yet that is...
