May 6, 2006, otherwise known as 06/06/06, was the night my friends and I decided to travel to the outskirts of Valley Center, KS. Valley Center is just north of Wichita, the air capital of the world. The drive took us about forty-five minutes. My palms began to sweat as I killed the engine of my car. My stomach did a few flip-flops and twisted into a knot. I gulped loudly and stepped closer to my friends to shield the wind. We were about three hundred yards from Theorosa's Bridge.

Theoroa's Bridge is a world-known wonder; it has been talked about all over the United States as one of the most haunted places known to man. Before this day I had heard many stories but had never had the guts to approach my fears.

There are many stories associated with Theorosa's Bridge dating back to the late 1800's. The most popular and talked about story is Theorosa, a young woman, gave birth to an illegitimate child. To hide her shame she throws the baby over the bridge, leaving it to drown. Overcome with grief and guilt, she dives in after her baby. She eventually drowns and now haunts the bridge searching for her lost child.

As the legends are told, you can stand in the middle of the bridge and not feel a single gust of wind. So my friends and I lock arms and make our way to the center of the bridge. I keep thinking this can't be too bad; it looks like any other bridge in town. We're all equipped with our lighters and once we reach the middle we whip them out. To our amazement, the lighters do not blow out. We raise our hands to the sky and yet again look at each other with shocked expressions. There is no wind!

So we do the next dare on our list. We yell "Theorosa we have your baby!" three times in a row. Rumor has it that you will see the figure of Theorosa along the water or perhaps even on the bridge. You better believe that we all had our car keys in our hands ready to bolt if we saw anything. But a few moments of silence after our chanting we see nothing.

Even though we didn't see ghosts we were still a little shook up and decided to hurry up and finish the last dare and get out of this place. The last dare consists of driving onto the bridge, parking in the middle, and yelling "Theorosa" three times. The myths associated with this stunt are that your car will not start on the first try and after you finally start the car your electrical system will go haywire before returning to normal. We scream her name at the top of our lungs and turn the key. I think we were all a little disappointed and relieved when the car started.

Regardless of our poor attempts to see or experience any ghostly figures many people have seen apparitions and heard groans, moans, and cries.

Theorosa's bridge was actually closed for fifteen years when the original wood and iron bridge burned down in 1974. It was reopened in 1991 and a concrete bridge now spans the river. The bridge's stories are continually told and it is a hot spot around Halloween. I encourage you to visit for yourself, but only if you dare!

I'm also from Valley Center. We went out to Theorosa bridge alot. But the bridge that everyone goes to is not the REAL Theorosa bridge. The real bridge is a few miles north of the newer concrete one that everyone knows. You have to pull over on the street that leads to the newer bridge, and then walk through an overgrown nasty field to find an old tattered falling down wooden bridge. Thats the real Theorosa bridge.Ive only been there once and was too creeped out to walk on the old bridge,But be careful not to be seen cause the people in the houses around will call the cops. Plus,we're all rednecks out there, and everyone has shotguns in their houses! LoL!

I grew up in Valley Center Kansas, and there is more to the story that after Theorosa had committed suicide on the bridge, her Native American Husband spend his last days there looking for her, and his ghost is to have popped up from time to time, and it is suspected that he has always been the one responsible for burning down the bridge over and over, that is until they rebuilt it with a concrete bridge.

The time of year to look for either of these ghosts is not in June, it is in October/November, that is when the most paranormal activity will be present, and you can call out the chant. There is also a chant to call her husband, but I forget what it is.

wow, i went there a few nights ago, my dad took me there and when we got to the first bridge, the windows fogged up. When we got to Theorosa's bridge, the windows were completely fogged up, you couldn't see very well. I also went there tonight with mom and dad. Mom searched the bridge and i looked out the window for awhile. I saw a shadow on one of the small islands on the creek, i didn't know if it was a deer or the "legend"...

I was there tonight. I got out of the car which was parked on the bridge and just walked around a bit. I am a professional psychic, and was kind of disappointed when I didn't feel a thing, outside of a slight dizzy feeling. It is only now, afterwards, that I am reading up on all this. I wouldn't want to challenge her, having been with "challenging" psychic or ghostly energies before, but I'm still curious.
