Troy has a haunted Crybaby Bridge on LeFevre Road. Supposedly a young family were driving over the bridge when they crashed. Despite a massive effort to find the child, he or she was never found. Late at night if you stand on or near the bridge, you can hear the sounds of the baby crying loudly.
We ventured onto Crybaby Bridge several times over the years, listening closely for the sounds of a baby crying but sadly we never heard anything. Once or twice a few of us were even brave enough to stand on the bridge alone and we never did hear that baby crying. The bridge is fairly creepy though, especially late at night.
Grove Cemetery in Troy is also rumored to be haunted. This little cemetery was used for a number of years, though no one's been buried there since at least the early 20th century. During the 1870s a young woman was visiting her grandfather's grave when an unknown man grabbed her. He raped her and then killed her before disappearing into the dark. Stories claim that you can hear people walking in the woods and hear a woman screaming.
Grove Cemetery is easily one of the strangest and creepiest places in the entire city of Troy. It's isolated and back off the road and even if you're with people around, it's easy to feel like you're completely alone. The trees almost seem to bend towards you, as if warning you to leave.
Late at night you can hear the sounds of things rustling in the woods, but we chalked this up more to wild animals than any type of ghost. After all there's everything from squirrels to deer living in those woods. As for the screams of the dying woman, we never heard anything but we did spend some time trying to figure out which grave she was visiting that night.
Last in Troy is Polecat Road. One night a man was killed when his motorcycle hit a tree and he was thrust headfirst into the tree. There are also local stories that claim the Ku Klux Klan often practiced in this area and even held a lynching or multiple hangings on the road. At night you can see a strange green orb glowing in the trees on the side of the road.
Polecat Road is only scary if you hear the story first. It's a road I drove down frequently with my parents and we never experienced anything strange there. At night with my friends, we never spotted that strange green orb either. The only thing we saw was lots of other cars trying to spot the ghost light.
Unfortunately I never had any strange experiences in these places, but you're more than welcome to try for yourself and see what you uncover.
