Haunted Roads: Rhode Island
Haunted Road Tower Hill Road Trumball, Rhode Island
Strange Encounters Drivers have reported seeing the ghosts of small children, including a little girl who seems to be waiting for someone, a young boy and his dog and a toddler riding his bike. The legend is that these are the victims of accidents who died on Tower Hill Road. Although unverified, with it's inky blackness and narrow winding road and sharp curves, Tower Hill seems like a likely place for accidents to occur. There have also been reports of strange figures roaming the woods and a path that leads to a mysterious cabin with the ghost of a young girl sitting on the porch.
Haunted Roads: Connecticut
Haunted Road Downs Rd Hamden, CT
Strange Encounters Now abandoned, what is left is an unpaved trail through the woods littered with dilapidated foundations of dwellings that once stood along this haunted road. Still explorers brave enough to walk the walk the isolated trail have reported screams in the woods, a general sense of unease and being followed and one motorist claims small demonic children attacked the car by throwing rock, jumping on the hood and leaving large scratch marks on the doors. The now isolation of this haunted road only fuels the legends of such strange encounters.
Haunted Road Velvet Road aka Dracula Drive Monroe, CT
Strange Encounters Velvet Road has earned its somewhat dramatic nickname Dracula Drive due to a local urban legend. Supposedly an insane asylum in the area burnt to the ground killing most of the patients and staff. About ten inmates survived and took up residence in the woods near the dirt road Velvet Road. Resorting to cannibalism and inbreeding the offspring of these lunatics developed bulbous shaped heads and strange warped features. Known as the Melonheads they supposedly lurk close to Velvet Road attacking anyone who draws to near.
Haunted Roads: Massachusettes
Haunted Road Route 44 Rehoboth, MA
Strange Encounters A most disturbing story of the ghost of a redheaded hitchhiker are frequently reported by drivers on Route 44. An isolated stretch of road the man is described as having bright red hair and a beard, and wearing a flannel shirt and jeans. Motorists who have picked him up report he doesn't respond to questions or speak but just smiles unnervingly at them and eventually vanishes. One witness claimed he laughed wildly when asked a question and the eerie laughter followed him as he fled down the road in terror. His eyes have been described as glowing empty or normal but filled with evil. This just goes to show that you should never pick up hitchhikers. You just don't know who or what they may be.
There have been many more strange encounters on the haunted roads of New England. These are just a few of the scariest but keep your eyes open when driving late at night especially in New England. You may find yourself crossing over onto a haunted road
