Marilyn's reflection has appeared in a full-length mirror that used to be in her favorite suite. Marilyn Montor's mirror has been relocated, and is now near the lobby's mezzanine level gift shop.

Montgomery Clift is said to haunt his favorite room, 928. Guests have reported hearing Clift's trombone playing in the ninth floor hallway.

It is said that the hotel's top floor Gable-Lombard Suite has a strong psychic and sexual energy. The Gable-Lombard Suite is very expensive, so you may need to be a movie star to stay there.

History of the Roosevelt Hotel

The twelve story Roosevelt Hotel was opened in 1927 in Los Angeles, California. Hollywood Roosevelt been the playground of Hollywood movie stars since its opening. The Roosevelt was the birthplace of the Academy Awards.

The hotel is located a block west of Grauman's Chinese Theatre and is one of the most historic sites on Hollywood Boulevard.

Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel's "Blossom Room" hosted the first Academy Awards ceremony in 1929. The cememony in the Blossom Room was attened by 270 people. The tickets were $5 each. The ceremony included a long banques with speeches. The actual presentation of the award statuew, however, was said to take only five minutes. Hollywood stars Douglas Fairbanks and Al Jolson presented 13 of the coveted statues.

Stars from the glory days of Hollywood, including Clark Gable, Carole Lombard, Marilyn Monroe, Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks, Montgomery Clift, Will Rogers, Charlie Chaplin, Clara Bow, Harold Lloyd and Greta Garbo are among those who have stayed at the Roosevelt.

The Hollywood Boulevard area, including the grand Roosevelt Hotel went into a decline in the 1950's. One owner made unfortunate changes to the Roosevelt, such as as demolishing the hotel's grand archways, covering up elaborately painted ceilings and painting the entire hotel seafoam green. In the 1980's the owners considered tearing down the famous hotel.

The hotel was rescued when the Radisson luxury hotel chain purchased the historic hotel. Radisson set out to restore the hotel, using the original blueprints. The $35 million renovation restored the Spanish Colonial style hotel.

The historic hotel has been used as a set for scenes for Hollywood movies. and television shows. Scenes from "The Fabulous Baker boys", Internal Affairs", Beverly Hills Cop II", "Knots Landing" and "Moonlighting" have been filmed at the Roosevelt.

Roosevelt celebrated its 75th anniversary with a $15 million renovation by designer Dodd Mitchell. in 2005 The renovation combined many of the hotel's historic highlights with modern hotel luxuries. The sunken lobby, with its Spanish influence, is much the same as it was in 1927. The lobby features handcrafted columns and dramatic arches. Guest rooms have been completely renovated.
