Have $200,000 to Spare? Buy a Ticket into Outer Space
Virgin Galactic and Others Now Selling Tickets for the Space Tourism Industry
Virgin Galactic has already collected a startling $21 million from approximately 200 eager participants willing to spend the hefty price tag for a 2 1/2 hour suborbital flight.
Other companies also hoping to launch flights into space by 2009 are Rocketplane Inc., located in Oklahoma City, and Benson Space Co. in Poway, California.
Will Whitehorn, president of Virgin Galactic, says "There's a wide range of scientists, entrepreneurs, business people and people who really have a vision of wanting to go into space."
One such person is Bryan Singer, director of The X-men and Superman Returns. Others include a couple who plans to celebrate their honeymoon in space, and Dallas actress and skin care product designer Victoria Principal, who says " I am absolutely enamored by this planet. I think planet Earth is dumbfounding in its beauty and complexity." Victoria Principal has stressed that she plans to be one of the first onboard the Virgin Group's spacecraft.
The spacecrafts operated by Virgin Galactic will be taking off from Spaceports in California and New Mexico. Each spacecraft seats six passengers and two pilots.
Virgin Galactic and other companies say that the space tourism industry will create a whole new industry of jobs and businesses, as well as more hotels and restaurants surrounding the spaceports.

Post a Commentfolks who have a passion and love for space, can not be rationally understood by those who don't. Let's look at it carefully, we all will die one day, this way or that, many of us will lose $200k in gambling or in real Estate (when price of your house tanks). I just can't imagine how to compare a once-in-a-life-time experience with these kind of things! Of course it is expensive for ordinary people, but for rich guys, it is almost nothing. Space is the ultimate frontier. We can only go forward by looking at the sky....
I bought my ticket. Are there any single ladies that want to get freaky in orbit?
Would be a cool trip, but I think I'll spend my extra money on ......cotton candy :D:D j/k
This is excellent news! We shall soon see a new era of full-fledged privately-funded space travel and exploration. My best wishes go out to the space tourists and the innovative inventors and entrepreneurs who made this wonderful opportunity possible.
At the risk of sounding like a total coward, I think I'd spend the 200,000 on a few trips to Europe. I get nervous enough on planes--I can't imagine what it would be like to go into space
I would buy a ticket too.. Its a once in a lifetime (at the moment) experience.. :-)
Wow, this is great can't wait to until I guess my AC bonus, up up and away I go. Honestly though, wow $200,000 that's a heck of alot of money.
My husband would spend that much in a heart-beat to visit outer-space. LOL.
well, if I did suddenly have $200,000, I could probably think of something better to use it for!!!

New Mexico has got to love it.
