Have Barack Obama's Chances Been Hurt by Rev. Wright's Radical Views?

Louisa Burgess
The honeymoon is finally over. Presidential Candidate Barack Obama has finally been hit with mud that sticks, and the press is all over it. Will Rev. Wright's radical views harm Obama's chances? They already have.

The situation gets worse by the day. Barack Obama's former Pastor and mentor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright went on a publicity tour in the past few days that seemed designed to derail the Obama candidacy. Billed as his opportunity to defend himself, Rev. Wright spoke at an NAACP event, a National Press Club event and made several other stops along the way. He has a right to "defend" himself and explain remarks taken out of the context of his sermons. At times he sounded more sincere and honest than Barack Obama to tell you the truth, as he pointed out that Obama's meager attempts to distance himself were done for "political expediency." Ouch.

The Wright controversy began prior to the Pennsylvania Primary which Clinton handily won. Since then, polls are showing that Hillary Clinton has gained momentum against both Obama and McCain. Today the Associated Press National Poll indicates that Clinton beats McCain by 9 points. "Helped by independents, young people and seniors, Clinton gained ground this month in a hypothetical match with Sen. McCain, the GOP nominee-in-waiting. She now leads McCain, 50 percent to 41 percent, while Obama remains virtually tied with McCain, 46 percent to 44 percent," according to the AP.

Unfortunately for Barack Obama, although he has a gift for words and obviously is charismatic, despite his Harvard Education, he didn't renounce Rev. Wright's politically offensive sound bites immediately. Anything he does or says now appears to be insincere.

The pundits are all over the talk shows talking about Rev. Wright's "unpatriotic" remarks, and "radical" sound bites. Over the din, there is the occasional "If Barack Obama can't do a better job of fighting this controversy, how can he convince voters he is strong enough to be President." Followed by, "If Hillary Clinton has proved one thing during this campaign it's that she is a fighter, she perseveres."

None of this bodes well for Candidate Obama. Not at all.

Very well written, Louisa, 5 stars. Obama's close affiliation has cost him some votes. Unfortunately, many of his supporters are allowing ideology to trump good sense and logic and continue to support a man that clearly has an affinity to such subversive anti-American attitudes. This is evident by the totality of Obama's affiliations and voting record. Supporters such as "John F" that commented is a small sample of folks that continue to put ideology in front of the Nation's interest...they rather see the Nation fail as long as their party wins..

This guy is something else. For him to even believe he is associated with God but such a terrible person. I just don't understand ones reasoning behind hurting someone intentionally. Great write.

Good article. I think you may be right and this mark will be blemish throughout the rest of the game, I mean campaign. I've always thought you couldn't trust Obama because you don't really know what he stands for. He was giving Hillary heck for the way she was raising money and I went on his website asked a relevant question and the first response was "thanks for taking an interest please donate." type response and then I asked two more times before I got an answer.

I truly hope Obama HAS been hurt and that the American people are seeing this monster for what he truly is !!! I totally completely 100%agree with Kim Linton's comment too!

It's unfortunate that the old saying "Guilty by association" is bearing the most truth in the case of the Obama and Rev Wright situation.

Good article, Louisa...Rev. Wright and his followers are very scary peple including Mr. Obama.

I'm sorry, I actually wrote the article 2 months ago (March 1). It was before the media started playing the never ending clips of Wright and back when it wasn't popular to ask questions about Barack or his associations. :)

I can't believe it's taken Barack's followers and the DNC this long to finally see the problem. I wrote an article about Rev. Wright and Trinity church almost a month ago and you would have thought (by the responses I received) that I had committed blasphemy. Now, some of those same folks who condemned me for the article are suddenly concerned about Wright's role in this election. I actually feel sorry for Barack because this man just won't stop talking. He is without a doubt an albatross.
