Let me start out by saying that I have not personally had this happen to me but I sincerely sympathize with who ever has been this unfortunate. This is a compilation of various information that you may not have access to. A lot of people, according to studies, become so emotionally and mentally confused and scarred. This usually prompts a withdrawn and passive demeanor where the victim may think that there is no hope of fixing the problem or that no one would care to help. This is where moral support from friends and family should come into effect. Ass a friend or relative you could help the victim to see that this was not their fault and there are things to be done and people who would not only care but also investigate to see justice prevail.

If you have found that someone has used your credit card or opened a credit account in your name using your personal information then you need to follow a few simple steps in order for the situation to be corrected.

  1. File a police report: This will show that you felt violated right from the get go and want immediate help regarding the fraudulent actions against you.
  2. Contact these three major credit bureaus and ask to speak to the fraud division. Experian: 1-888-397-3742-Equifax: 1-800-685-1111 --- Trans Union 1-800-888-4213. This will instantly let them know that you are a victim and they will not allow your credit to suffer over it. They can also offer some tips as well.
  3. Talk to each of the account managers or the managers where items had been bought using your information. Inform them that the matter is being resolved and let them know that you would be happy to supply an affidavit and a copy of the police report for their records.
  4. If you have reason to believe that someone has been using your social security number then you MUST report it to their fraud hotline: 1-800-269-0271
