Cheap Halloween Events
Look for free, or cheap, events in your town or neighborhood. Many towns host Halloween parties that are free for children to attend. Sometimes schools, or even your local mall, will host trick-or-treating in a controlled environment so you do not have to worry about your children walking house to house.
Talk with all of your neighbors and explain that you are working toward a cheap Halloween. Everyone may be willing to come together and create an event that children, and adults, will enjoy.
It is also important to remember that you don't have to attend a large event. You can have a great Halloween just by popping some popcorn and watching a few scary movies with your loved ones.
Cheap Halloween Parties
Throw a Halloween party for less by involving your friends and family. Often the host or hostess picks up the tab for all of the decorations and food for a party, unless of course it is a potluck, so throw a potluck Halloween party!
Talk to your friends and family and you may find that everyone else is looking for a way to have a cheaper Halloween as well but still want to have a good time. Have everyone bring over decorations earlier in the day and help you decorate whatever room, or rooms, you will be using for the party. That night have everyone bring a dish and a treat. It wouldn't take much to have a great treat bar if everyone brought a bit of candy or snacks!
Cheap Halloween Decorations
The cheapest Halloween decorations you could have can be made at home! Get out the craft and art supplies and have your children, or family and friends, help you create decorations for your home.
Shop garage sales for Halloween decorations or see if your friends have anything that they no longer wish to use.
Combine your decorations so that Halloween, Thanksgiving, and general Fall decorations can all be interchanged. Pumpkins, gourds, and other fall décor will work for the entire season instead of switching out the décor for each holiday.
Many of us have watched the price of Halloween costumes go up and up. Instead of paying the high prices for character costumes that are not going to be popular next year anyway, we should look into more creative costumes.
Make your own costumes. Use poster board, glue, sheets, or old clothes to create such costumes as a witch, a goblin, or the old standby, a ghost.
Hold a costume swap with your friends and family, especially those that have children around the same age.
