Allergies are a very peculiar thing. One day you'll be fine. The next you can develop an allergy. Your body will only tolerate an irritating substance for so long before it finally declares it as an allergen. Once that happens exposure to that allergen can make you have allergy symptoms.

Every person's body is unique. Some are very strong and tolerant of most everything. These people do not generally have allergies, and when they do they are mild. Other people are sensitive to things. Perfumes, dyes, certain foods, common household pollutants like dust and mold can make them experience symptoms where as a person who is not sensitive would not.

People who already have allergies that they are aware of are more likely to be allergic to alcohol than those who do not. Alcohol allergy is very poorly understood. A person who is truly allergic to alcohol does not develop mild symptoms. The symptoms are usually quite severe. This is not an allergy that can be taken lightly.

A true alcohol allergy is a rare thing to have. It is a very strange allergy because the body naturally produces small amounts of alcohol on it's own. How can someone be allergic to something their body makes? Many people may believe they are allergic to the alcohol but in reality they are actually allergic to an ingredient that it is made from, which would be found in it and therefore cause a reaction upon consumption. Sometimes this is the case. Other times it is not.

True alcohol allergies do exist. The body may make little amounts of alcohol, yes, but any more than that enters the body and very bad things happen. A person with a true alcohol allergy only has to consume one little sip of an alcoholic beverage to get symptoms of the allergic reaction.

Some people do experience symptoms after consuming a small to moderate amount of alcohol that are non allergy related. Flushing of the face, a warm feeling, light headedness, nausea and rapid heartbeat are common after consuming alcohol. People who experience these symptoms are most likely feeling the affects of the alcohol, or a simply more sensitive to the affects.

A true alcohol allergy, on the other hand, is apparent when less than one ounce of alcohol consumed send you to the emergency room. Less than one ounce of alcohol for a person with an allergy to it will make that person very seriously ill. Hives usually occur. Increase in temperature and heart rate, dropping of blood pressure, swelling of the face, lips, eyes and through. If these symptoms are not treated with an EPIPEN immediately anaphylactic shock will occur. This is a very dangerous thing.

Alcohol allergies are very serious. Small amounts, even less than one ounce, of alcohol will make a person who is allergic very ill. This allergy can be fatal. EPIPENS are necessary for anyone who has a severe allergy to anything, including alcohol. If you think you have a severe allergy judging by the symptoms listed then please call your doctor.

People with alcohol allergies need to be very careful when choosing foods and products. Chocolate liquor, or any extracts or liquors will make you ill. Mouthwash, toothpastes, shampoos, and lotions all contain alcohol. They'll make your skin break out and itch! See, it's not only if you drink the alcohol that you get symptoms if you are truly allergic. Having a beer spilled on you can make you nearly as sick as taking just one sip. In the same sense, using products that contain alcohol will cause allergy symptoms, although not quite as severely as when it is ingested. Be careful, and be safe. See your doctor for any allergy problems!
