Have a Dog for Good Health!

Your Best Friend Brings You Benefits You May Never Have Considered

Suzanne Bennett
When you have a dog, you have a constant companion. Your dog is always happy to see you and always happy to do whatever you would like to do. That's why having a dog is such a boost to your health and well being.

Recent research has proven that having a dog is beneficial to your heart as well as your circulatory system. Additionally, people who have already had one heart attack can lower the chance of having another one just by having a dog. One reason for this is the fact that your dog can help you stay active. Walking your dog, throwing a ball for him, and just playing around all help keep you fit and active.

Having a dog boosts your immune system. For one thing, the enjoyment you get from your best friend helps increase your sense of well-being. This alone gives your immune system a boost. If you have small children, far from causing allergies, having a dog helps them become accustomed to dander and other allergens. This helps their immune system build up a defense against these things.

Having a dog to pet, play with and relax with is a great way to reduce stress. We all know that stress is a dangerous thing, but do you know the physical symptoms that can be brought on by stress? Stress increases your blood pressure. It slows your digestion and causes you to feel depressed and anxious. Stress can interfere with your sleep and negatively impact your performance at work. It can hamper the enjoyment you might be able to derive from life.

When you laugh and play with your dog, it helps your brain produce endorphins, the feel-good hormone. When you pet your dog, your heart rate slows, and you relax. When you know your dog is waiting for you at home, you have something happy to look forward to at the end of a long hard day. All of this combines to help you enjoy life more.

Having a dog gives you someone to socialize with on a regular, ongoing basis. This is extremely important to your health and well-being. A dog is a dependable companion. He won't cheat on you or change his mind about the way he feels. He won't lie to you. He will just be there and be your friend.

Additionally, having a dog is a great way to meet other people. When you go out with your dog, people are very likely to stop and say, "Hello!" and ask to pet your dog. A dog can also help you to feel safer in public. Ne'er-do-wells are unlikely to approach a person walking a good-sized dog.

So for companionship, safety, and peace of mind, nothing can beat having a dog.
