"...For most people, sleeping is the only time their conscious, waking minds are still enough to possibly attend to what the inner subconscious mind has to say. Remembering your dreams, in essence actively listening to your own subconscious mind, is very much like having a conversation with your best friend."
According to the School of Metaphysics, by the time you reach the age of 60, you will have spent 17% of your time dreaming, the equivalent of approximately 10 years of round-the-clock dreaming. The number of dreams you will have during that time? - Around 197,100.
While the body sleeps, the mind engages in all kinds of activities. Thoughts and images that impacted you throughout the day seep into your dreams at night. Maybe you noticed, for no longer than a second, the splatter of rain in a street puddle. At night, though, while you slumber, the puddle becomes splatters of paint that arouse in you a desire to immerse your hand and splash around in the sensuous colors. Is your dream telling you to try your hand at painting?
Every event, significant and insignificant, when combined with emotion, impacts you in some way. When your subconscious speaks to you during waking hours, with all the distractions of a busy life, you may not be receptive to its message. But when you sleep, your dreams take on your most important issues and offer advice, resolution, and insight - if only you would acknowledge their importance.
Dreaming, that state of slumber that occurs during the R.E.M. (rapid eye movement) stage of sleep is sometimes comforting, often playful, and many times terrifying. Dreams connect you to your spirit and attempt to relay messages that will aid you in your spiritual development.
Dreams are also doorways to your soul. By understanding your dreams, you understand yourself. Dreams that haunt you, recurring dreams that mystify you, or dreams that have a common theme beg for interpretation. You intuitively know your dreams are trying to tell you something but what that something is, you can't seem to figure out.
In the Beginning
"Dream analysis, for thousands of years, has been a function performed by magicians, sages, and prophets. In Genesis 40, the Pharaoh summoned Joseph to interpret his dreams. And in Daniel I, King Nebuchadnezzar called upon Daniel to analyze his dreams. Because incorrect interpretations might result in death, it was imperative that they be accurate." (fromInterpreting Your Dreams - Dream Interpretation)
Fast-forward to 1973 - The School of Metaphysics opened with the belief that research and education would teach others how to harmonize the mind with Universal Principals and would result in "greater insight, happiness, security, prosperity, health, and peace." (http://www.som.org/)
In the fall of 1985, a small scale Dream Hotline was set up in Springfield, Missouri. By April 1989, The 1st National Dream HotlineĀ® was set up. And in March 1990 a USA Today nationally syndicated television spot gave the hotline its first widespread exposure.
Today
"Today dream analysis books and websites offer readers a glimpse of the subconscious dream world through universally accepted images and their associated meanings. Archetypes (universal images), mythical figures, and dream symbolism figure prominently in our psyche and relate to us messages from our subconscious. To know ourselves, we must know our conscious mind as well as our subconscious mind." (fromInterpreting Your Dreams - Dream Interpretation)
The School of Metaphysics invites you to browse its website and its affiliate, dreamschool.org (http://www.dreamschool.org/). Pay attention to your dreams, jot them down and call or email them (information is provided below) if you want help in understanding your dreams. The School of Metaphysics will analyze your dreams, at no cost to you, as part of their research program. By contacting the National Dream Hotline, not only can you develop insights into the inner workings of your mind, you can also help them build a database of dreams that will ultimately help others.

Dream Research Project #2
In conjunction with the National Dream Weekend, The Global Lucid Dreaming Experiment is accepting volunteers now to participate in a remarkable project where YOU can help solve our economic crisis. How? By incubating a dream.
Solve World Problems While You Sleep!
Have you ever thought of doing something so phenomenal, your efforts might actually save the Earth? Ever thought of doing it while you sleep? Performing an altruistic act while sleeping is a dream come true - literally.
Dreams are known to have inspired songwriters, playwrights, and scientists. But having dreams by chance is different from having them on demand. And that is exactly what the Global Lucid Dreaming Experiment is all about. Think of it as programming your mind like you would your DVR. But rather than pushing buttons, when you prepare yourself to dream of something specific, you "incubate" a dream.
Incubating a dream is a process Gayle Delaney, author of Living Your Dreams, discusses in great detail in her book. The process is also encouraged by dreamschool.org and, in fact, is required if you want to participate in the Global Lucid Dreaming Experiment (http://www.dreamschool.org/NewSite/LucidDreaming/WhatIsLucidDreaming.html). (Email address and phone number are listed below.)
Lucid dreaming occurs when the dreamer realizes he or she is dreaming. A lucid dream enables the dreamer to do things that would be impossible to do during the waking state - flying, for example, or visiting deceased loved ones, or in the case of the Global Lucid Dreaming Experiment, solving a global problem while you sleep.
According to dreamschool.org, "Dutch author and psychiatrist Frederik van Eeden was the first to coin the term lucid dreaming. The year: 1913. Since that time, giant steps have been taken to understand consciousness and increase humankind's awareness of Self."
Individually and collectively, we hold the answers for all of our problems. By focusing on one problem at a time, and by encouraging participation from like-minded individuals, dreamschool.org hopes to build their database and come up with a plan to improve our economy.
We have a spiritual connection to our own dreams; they are the gateway to our souls. We also have a spiritual connection to each other and to our planet.
For details on participating in the Global Lucid Dreaming Experiment, email experiment@dreamschool.org for details or call them at 417 345-8411.
For more information on the National Dream Weekend email dreams@dreamschool.org or call 417 345-8411.
*PLEASE NOTE: If you miss the National Dream Weekend, you can still email your dreams to them for interpretation. They are always building their dream database.
