Have Fun at a Great Wolf Lodge Waterpark

Outdoors that's Indoors

Karen Reams
Great Wolf Lodge offers year-round fun at its imaginative full-service destination resorts. And with the opening of a resort in Concord, NC, there are now a dozen Great Wolf Lodge resorts to choose from.

In fact, Great Wolf Lodges are scattered across the states from Washington state to Pennsylvania and one resort is to be found on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls.

So what can a Great Wolf Lodge offer for a family vacation?

Well, Great Wolf Lodge resorts are in fact based on an indoor waterpark which offers fun galore on slides, rides and splashdowns.

In fact the idea of a family-focused waterpark destination first came into being in the '90s at Wisconsin Dells and the founders of Great Wolf Lodge realized that this idea would translate well across the country. A resort that provides a one-stop, weather proof vacation that all the family could enjoy.

A suite that is large enough to accommodate a family of four starts at $240. Now, not only do you get the accommodation for this price but it also includes waterpark admission for each day of the visit, activities in Cub Club and nightly story time sessions in the Grand Lobby.

And what's more the facilities are only open to staying guests.

The idea of Great Wolf Lodge is to enjoy outdoors whilst indoors and central to this theme in every Great Wolf Lodge is a 3 story atrium. This atrium embraces the indoor waterpark (called Bear Track Landing) which depending on which resort you are staying at can be as large as 100,000sq ft.

The rides at the waterpark are many and range from 4-lane mate racers, tube slides, the 'howlin' tornado family raft ride, body slides and of course a slide for the kiddies.

In the waterpark there are also a number of pools to choose from such as a recreation pool with floating creatures and a water walk, a wave pool, a family activity splash pad and a zero-depth entry pool for children's activities.

And it doesn't stop there. There is even an entertainment center called Fort Mackenzie which is an interactive tree house which is home to a 1,000 gallon tipping water bucket.

When you need to dry off there are plenty of family cabanas.

Great Wolf Lodge resorts also provide plenty of certified life guards to keep watch over kids of all ages.

Of course when the weather is good you may not wish to be inside and so there is raccoon lagoon which offers an outdoor waterpark as well as the Howling Wolf spray fountain and plenty of loungers and umbrella tables.

Although it's fun to be wet there are times when you will need a break and it is during these times that you can take advantage of the Element Spa Salon or send the kids to the Scoops Kid Spa.

The Northern Lights Arcade offer 100 plus video games and Cub Club will keep the kids occupied with activities and crafts.

The family themed restaurants include the Bear Paw Sweets and eats, the Loose Moose Restaurant, and the Camp Critter Bar and Restaurant.
