Have a Fun Summer Vacation for Much, Much Less!

E H
The best summer vacation that you'll ever have is one that's both cheap and fun! And you need it. It's time to escape from the usual huff and puff of daily, routine life; and the kids are always excited to see something new. The problem is you are not exactly a wealthy bunch who can afford to vacation whenever wherever you wish, and you haven't managed to save much throughout the year for summer vacationing. What do you do? No matter the circumstances, you should never be stuck in a place where you do not want to be. It's just not the spirit of Summer when kids are whining and you're aggravated. Before you go, know your options and plan carefully what to do.

Assess Your Capital:
In other words, don't expect to go from Virginia to Vegas on a $500 budget. Choose wisely. Think about how much you'll be spending per day, on average, and plan your vacation accordingly. $500 may not take a large family to Vegas, but can take them to a nice beach resort or the nearest Six Flags for a long weekend. Think about all of your daily needs; including gas, food, tickets, baby diapers, etc. Once you have an idea of how much you'll be spending per day, you can decide how many days you can spend away from home and where you can spend them, or at least narrow down your options.

Family Season is Off-Season:
Yep, exactly as the subtitle says! Family means a group of people, and a vacation for a group of people usually costs much more than it does for an individual or couple. Off-season is your best choice, because that's when individuals, couples, and groups of friends aren't going the same way you are. It's when businesses and hotels usually lower their prices to attract as many other people as possible. I'm not saying you should push off your skiing to the summer months, but know your destination well and you may find other fun things to do. In other words, you can go to Colorado in the summer to have fun hiking, fishing, rafting, and doing several other cool activities.

Do Your Online Homework:
Search for offers, coupons, and discounts online. You can save money on theme-park tickets, museum tours, dinner, and hotel rooms just by spending a little time online. If you start early, you can find online forums with thousands of members where you can ask about local deals and insider facts that you may have never known otherwise. Furthermore, you may save some money on gas by finding the cheapest gas prices in cities you'll be passing during your drive on Gasbuddy.com.

Choose Family-Friendly Hotels or Try House Swapping:
Hotels that offer complimentary breakfast are great for vacationing on a budget! Hotel suites that include full kitchens are even better! They will cut down much of the cost of eating at nearby restaurants for breakfast and late evening meals. Some suites consist of two rooms and a decently sized living room with a fold-out sofa as an extra bed, which make them perfect for a large family that would require three hotel rooms otherwise. You do the math! Finally, remember that a hotel room is just a place to sleep and you won't be spending much of your time there anyway, so as long as it's comfortable you should be fine and dandy. But if you want even more benefits and savings, try house swapping. House swapping is when you exchange houses with someone who is interested in visiting your town while you visit their town. That way, you'll cut down your travel costs by a leap! You'll also feel better knowing that your pets at home will be properly cared for and looked after.

Play it safe. Do your research about a week or two before you leave and you'll surely have a super fun time for much less than what you would usually expect to pay.
