Have a Non-Alcoholic New Years Eve

TM
While New Years Eve is often a holiday for many to go to a party and drink there are many people who are opting for a non-alcoholic New Years Eve and staying home. With the number of drunk driving accidents on New Years Eve some choose not to risk the roads and find something to do at home instead. With a few friends and a little planning you can have fun on New Years Eve without ever taking sip of alcohol.

With all of the sparkling ciders and juice available on the market and many non-alcoholic drink and punch recipes you don't have to forego the traditional midnight toast or good taste so invite some friends over and explain that your party will be non-alcoholic, make sure you have a place for others to sleep so they don't have to be on the road and get ready to have fun.

Our parents and yes depending on your age even your grandparents used to have something they called game night. Many people tend to shy away from game night because couples often make poor game partners or they get angry if one wins against the other. This can easily be resolved but setting up various different games or even setting up games for the women and games for the men. If couple who take the games too seriously will not be a problem then you might want to consider setting up a Texas Hold Em tournament as it is becoming hugely popular all over the country and can be great fun. Game night is something you can have for the entire family and if the children are young you can even set up separate games for the kids. Of course games and food always go hand in hand and if you want to still make the night special consider chocolate fondue (without the rum of course) and have fresh fruit for dipping. Chocolate fondue is always a decadent and well received treat. Game night on New Years Eve is sure to become a favorite yearly tradition for you and your friends.

Another way to enjoy a non-alcoholic New Years Eve is too host a movie night. Ask each couple to bring a movie and a non-alcoholic beverage or dish to pass. After everyone has had dinner then cook up some popcorn and settle in for a night of good movies. If there are children then set up two rooms for movies, one for the adults and the other for the children. While most children never make it to midnight make sure you have something for them to toast with at midnight just in case they are awake and willing to leave their movie to watch the ball drop.

A non-alcoholic New Years Eve does not have to be a New Years Eve without fun in fact it can be more fun because you can involve the entire family and you won't need to find a babysitter for the kids. You will also teach your children that they can have a night out with fun and friends without involving alcohol or the dreaded New Years Day hangover. Instead of spending a great deal of money between the party, the babysitter and possibly getting arrested for driving under the influence why not consider a non-alcoholic New Years Eve with your family and friends.

Trudy, I am all for a sober gathering of food, fun and good BS! I hope you had one just like you described. I went to bed right after I finished the neccessary time on a little write project I've been working on. Never even saw the ball drop. Haven't for years. I wish I had the knack for filling life's simple things with interesting fluff like you did here. I always feel like I need a herd of stampeding elephants in order to write anything... you are GREAT, Ma'am!
