Have You Started Making Out Your Christmas List?

Bill Hanks
The television station Nickelodeon is loaded with educational programs for little children. It is also loaded with toy commercials. My three year old grandson would watch these intently. I would then ask him, "Trent do you want that for Christmas?" "No that's for girls," he would say. At least he knows the difference in gender toys.

Although it is still September, stores have already started putting out Christmas items. During a tough economy, it is hard to not look like a Scrooge. So how can a person take care of their Christmas shopping list and still survive? This article will reflect on some considerations.

Know what you really want
Make sure that your list is what you really want. No pipe dreams here. Be logical and realistic of the items on your list. Do not over spend on items. If one toy is good enough, stick with your plan.

Make your list and check it twice
There is a lot of good common sense in this idea. Make out your list and list what your cost will be out to the side. As you browse through the stores, make note of the cost on items. Ask the clerk when they expect and if they expect the price to be reduced. Many stores are having Black Friday prices early. They are doing this to try and beat the competition. Ask the clerk, if there will be any coupons offered on items.

Two for the Price of One
Speaking about coupons, look for items that offer the deal of two for one. The original price might be a little high, however it could save you some money in the long run.

Touch their heart
Many times it is the thought that counts. If you adhere to this rule, take time to find the perfect gift. Pay close attention to the individual that you are buying for. Many times they will give you a sign of what is dear to their heart.

Buying in mass
If you have a group to buy for, get them all the same thing. There is nothing wrong with this idea and you are treating everybody equally. It is also cheaper.

Homemade Items
If you have a special craft skill, put it to good use. Start early and get your items made. Place a note on each item for whom is intended and store it.

Christmas Cards
Yes, you can buy these cheap. However, postage is till high 44 cents a stamp. If you work in a large office building that has personal mail boxes, just place them inside them. Consider who the card is for. Don't give a child's card to an adult and vice verse.

Everyone knows the economy is bad right now. Many won't expect anything. Do not hold it against someone, if they leave you out. If times were different, so would their motives.
