Have a Superhero Movie New Year's Eve Party

This New Year's Eve, superheroes are a great theme for an original party. There have been lots of superhero movies recently that can be used to entertain your guests. You can show one movie for a short party, or more if you'd like your friends to stay longer.

If you start your party around 3:30 in the afternoon, you'll have more than eight hours until the New Year's Eve ball drops and you ring in the new year. That's enough time for four movies. You can theme your decorations, food, and games for each movie; here are some examples.

Movies For a Superhero New Year's Eve Party

"X-Men" was a long-awaited 2000 release starring Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, and a crew of other talented actors. A quick "X-Men" costume could include red sunglasses for Cyclops, or a Wolverine hairstyle. For food, make sugar cookies from any recipe, then split the batch in half and use yellow food coloring on one, then blue on the other, and make Xs out of them before you cook them! It's a throwback to the 1990s "X-Men" cartoon that Cyclops even mentions in a line: "What did you expect, yellow spandex? For a game, you could have everyone vote on code names for each person, and whenever someone uses their real name, they lose a penny to the person whose real name they used.

"Spiderman" starred Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst in the iconic Spiderman and Mary Jane roles. Costuming could simply be a red wig for ladies, or red for gentlemen. To eat, a cake might be a fun project, with red frosting and silver or white "webbing." You can find patterns online for webs on cake.

"Batman Begins" was the beginning of Christian Bale's run as a reimagined Batman. Domino masks with little ears glued on would be a cute favor and costume for guests. Bat cookies are very easy to make with cookie cutters that are usually available at craft stores. For a party game that fits both "Spiderman" and "Batman Begins," have a couple over-sized business suits ready. Have two people at a time put the business suits on over their superhero disguises (A.K.A. The guests' normal clothes) then tell them there's an emergency and the hero is needed! They have to find a phone book and don their hero disguise as quickly as possible!

"Iron Man" was a blockbuster hit that starred Robert Downy Jr. as Tony Stark, a rich man who becomes Iron Man. Costuming could include the whole Iron Man helmet, or just a maroon shirt that matches the Iron Man costume. You can make an "Iron Man" Punch by mixing a bottle of POM pomegranate juice, 2 cans of Welch's frozen concentrated Fruit Harvest Punch Cocktail, the water that both juices call for, then lemon-lime soda to make the punch fizzy. Add slices of Golden Delicious apples and you have punch with yellow highlights, like Iron Man's costume. For a game, have everyone come up with a superhero invention, then vote on whose is the best. Tony Stark is an inventor in "Iron Man."

There are many other superhero movies that can be added to your New Year's Eve party. Have a good time, and be safe!

Great ideas. I never thought of having a themed party for New Year's Eve.
