Have Tax Problems? Indiana IRS Offices Part of Nationwide Effort to Help Taxpayers on May 15

Special Open House Locations Provide Tax Information, Help

Jan Corn
According to Jodie Reynolds, in charge of IRS media relations for Indiana and parts of the Midwest, there will be a special IRS Open House, to be held both nationwide and in Indiana. The Open House will take part May 15.

Unlike traditional open houses, normally associated with real estate and home sales, the IRS events are designed to help those owning small businesses as well as individuals with tax problems. Both groups can make use of the services offered that day. Indiana taxpayers, as well as those across the nation, should not pass up this opportunity for tax help.

For those who still wonder what can be accomplished at the IRS Open Houses, each location provides hope and perhaps assistance to taxpayers who have run into tax problems. Taxpayers who are behind on tax payments or have other issues may be able to resolve them on the spot.

This could certainly help provide some financial and stress relief, particularly in this very tough economy. Some people may worry about being able to keep up with their taxes even if they have been doing well until now. They could be among those who are in danger of business or home foreclosures or increasing debt.

Taxpayers who have been recently fired, as well as those suffering long-term unemployment, could have trouble making basic payments. They can get advice at one of the special Open House events. For those who can't even afford to pay for necessities such as food, clothing and shelter, IRS officials will be there to see if anything can be worked out.

If it is impossible to get to one the locations (listed below), phone consultations will also be available. In case of severe weather, individuals should call ahead to make sure a specific location is open.

A similar event took place on March 27. Just as a comparison, about two thirds of the people attending were able to get tax help or assistance. Passing up an Open House on May 15 could be a missed opportunity for many to take care of notices, payments and audits. Taxpayers are strongly encouraged to bring in their tax paperwork. This can help with getting the most specific information and is certainly easier than trying to explain tax problems without the paperwork.

Indiana locations for the Open House will be open from 9 am to 2 pm. Locations can be found here . They are among the 200 Tax Payer Assistance Centers which will be able to help individuals who may have given up hope of reaching a tax resolution. Based on previous results, many of those who may have felt the same way were able to find help. Since the Open House events only take place periodically, this could be the optimum time to take advantage of one. National locations can be found here .
