Below I've listed the steps to a perfect "Tea" Party!
First things first! Serving Dishes...go to the dollar store! Don't use your good tea set for a children's party! The dollar store has a huge selection of dishes for only a buck, so if you are having a party of eight, you won't be spending much!
You can decorate with a pretty table cloth, add confetti to the table, hang streamers from the ceiling, much like you would a regular party, but make sure to choose delicate colors, pastels work best! You want to create the calm relaxing feeling of an afternoon "tea".
What to serve? Well, as I said before, kids don't care for tea all that much, but they love juice! So, serve 100% juice in their tiny tea cups instead of tea. Think tiny for all of the snacks, try making sandwiches and cut them into triangles, cheese and crackers, fruit and vegetables with different flavored dips work great as well.
For dessert, place a scoop of vanilla ice cream between two chocolate chip cookies or in place of cake, make cupcakes and decorate with tiny plastic tea cups, which you can also purchase at the dollar store...in the toy section.
While you are at the dollar store, pick up some beaded jewelry and pocket books and maybe some sunglasses and decorative hats, let the girls play dress up with them. Play the music from "I'm a Little Teapot" quietly in the background and have the girls get up and do the dance.
And last but not least, the send home gift. Instead of goody bags, I suggest again the dollar store! The have a miniature tea sets for just a dollar that would make the perfect send home gift for each little girl!
Having a tea party doesn't have to be expensive or difficult, shop the dollar store and keep things "tiny". Here's to your perfect tea party! Your little girl is going to love it!
