Have a "Time Capsule" Party for New Years

Dee
Are you looking for a great idea to make your New Years Party stand out from the rest? I suggest you have a New Years "Time Capsule Party." When inviting your guests, ask them each to bring an item from the year 2006 to place in the time capsule. Perhaps you can even give a small prize to the guest who brings the most original or relevant item for the year.

First you'll want to choose a container to put the items in. The best time capsules should be sealed completely to keep air and water out, to preserve the contents. Aluminum, steel, or glass are a few suggestions. You might be able to purchase a time capsule to use online, at eBay, or other popular sites.

Once you have found the ideal time capsule to use, you'll want to set a date that the capsule will be opened, and the location where the time capsule will be placed until then. The longer the time capsule remains unopened, the more risk of damage to the contents. This decision will have to be yours. Now where will the time capsule be placed? It's not necessary that the time capsule be buried. Burying one could cause the contents to be damaged. A time capsule does not have to be out of sight, so it can be placed anywhere. In your home, attic, garage, etc.

Now what items will be placed in your time capsule? Your guests will certainly think long and hard to find an item that will be unique and relevant to the year 2006. Certain items to avoid are items with batteries, since the batteries can release harmful chemicals, rubber releases sulfur, canned food can explode. Color photographs, newspaper, video, audio, or computer tapes are all short lived items and should be avoided. There are so many other ideas of items to bring, your guests won't have any trouble finding something.

When packing your capsule, place each item in an acid free envelope, plastic bag, or other container. Pack the heaviest items first and work your way to the top. Use crumbled tissue paper to fill the areas between items. You can also place some silica gel in your capsule to prevent moisture from decaying your items.

You won't want to limit your party to the making of a time capsule. You can also include decorations that celebrate the year 2006. Play the top forty songs of the year, or throw the top movies of the year into your DVD player.

The most important thing is to have a safe, fun, and enjoyable New Years party.
